About The Position

The Catering Service Manager at Bay Laurel Catering is responsible for leading the event operations team to execute offsite catered events of various types and sizes across the University of Washington Campus and related venues. This role emphasizes effective resource management, scheduling, training, and ensuring high-quality service to exceed client expectations while maintaining safety and operational success.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree and a minimum of one year of management experience, including at least one year of fast-paced catering experience.
  • Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
  • Computer proficiency with Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, and SharePoint.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with the Unit Manager to implement goals and objectives.
  • Promote a culture of excellent customer service and maintain visibility with customers and staff.
  • Train and monitor performance in safety, cash handling, customer service, and food safety.
  • Supervise direct reports to ensure productivity, quality, and adherence to policies.
  • Contribute to performance appraisals for employees and assist in recruitment and selection of staff.
  • Manage all phases of service during catered functions and special events.
  • Handle and service alcoholic beverages, including preparation, service, and inventory management.
  • Establish a management presence at events, soliciting feedback and addressing customer inquiries.
  • Collaborate with peers in scheduling service staff and ensuring appropriate table setups for events.
  • Monitor food presentation quality, including portion size, temperature, and appearance.
  • Identify and correct unsafe conditions and report accidents using the Online Accident Reporting System (OARS).
  • Manage inventory from ordering to utilization, serving as the primary contact for vendors.
  • Contribute to fiscal management by monitoring financial reports and staffing schedules.
  • Oversee CBORD FSS functions related to purchasing, inventory, and service menus.
  • Supervise Banquet Captains and student staff, providing guidance and performance feedback.
