About The Position

URM Stores, Inc. is seeking a talented Category Manager to develop category-specific business plans for retail Member Owners. This role involves managing assortments, promotions, and markdowns for assigned categories, supporting retail merchandising teams, and driving growth initiatives. The successful candidate will leverage analytical skills and soft skills to collaborate with buyers and vendors, negotiate promotional offerings, and develop strategies for incremental sales.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in business or related field.
  • Five or more years of related experience in category management.
  • Proven track record of successful category management experience.
  • Strong analytical skills and solid Excel proficiency.
  • Experience with planogram software, preferably JDA or similar.
  • Knowledge of assortment planning, space planning, and promotional planning.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to collaborate with diverse personalities.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in retail grocery and/or category management.
  • Hands-on experience creating planograms.
  • Knowledge of forecasting, planning, scheduling, logistics, and manufacturing principles.

Responsibilities

  • Develop category specific business plans for URM member owner retail groups.
  • Assist in determining and managing assortment decisions, promotional activity, and markdowns.
  • Evaluate category specific strategies and business plans to achieve mutually agreed upon results with member owners.
  • Interact collaboratively with supplier partners and retailers through joint business planning processes.
  • Leverage internal and syndicated data to analyze sales results on a weekly, monthly, and quarterly basis.
  • Develop best practice schematics and layouts for retail merchandising execution.
  • Establish an environment that encourages fair negotiation with vendors, brokers, and stores.
  • Attend and participate in supplier and retailer meetings.
  • Oversee the development and facilitation of Category Analyst training for new hires.
  • Guide and sign off on all schematics for categories and manage member specific requests.
