About The Position

Cleveland-Cliffs Steel has an immediate opening for a Category Buyer in our MRO Procurement team in Cleveland, OH. This Category Buyer will be responsible for maintaining all aspects of their commodities with a focus on purchasing electrical parts and repairs along with other commodity categories as assigned. Other duties include assisting in developing, managing, pricing and maintaining supply contracts with our electrical suppliers. This person will interface with Suppliers, Operations, and other Cliffs Administrative Departments, as well as their peers from the Procurement organization.

Requirements

  • A Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering, Supply Chain or other business-related degree
  • At least two years of purchasing or industrial/operational experience with electrical components
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint
  • Strong analytical skills with attention to detail
  • Ability to think strategically and work independently as well as in a team environment
  • Strong communication skills, both oral and written
  • Must be resourceful and able to take initiative with a sense of urgency

Nice To Haves

  • Experience supporting a manufacturing organization
  • Understanding of high and low voltage electrical components, electronic components, electrical construction supplies, power supplies, PLC’s, drives, transformers, and other electrical and electronic devices
  • Knowledge of Oracle and TabWare ERP systems

Responsibilities

  • Support Electrical, Fabrication & Repair Procurement Team as necessary by sharing ownership of suppliers within the commodities assigned including assisting in writing and managing contracts, pricing, quality, and performance
  • Continuously strive to reduce the total cost of procured goods and services by negotiating favorable pricing, terms, and price protection in order to obtain the best value
  • Keep abreast of market conditions as to availability, price, and quality of assigned commodities
  • Write Requests for Pricing / Purchase Orders for all suppliers used under assigned commodities
  • Interface regularly with supplier representatives
  • Review assigned incoming requisitions and determine best buying methods
  • Partner with management and Legal on contract requirements and address purchasing issues in a timely fashion
  • Prepare detailed weekly / monthly reports and highlights for use by management
  • Follow department policies and procedures and participate in activities to continuously improve department workflow
  • Occasional travel is required
  • Other duties as assigned
