About The Position

The Catastrophe Homeowners Field Adjuster position at the Automobile Club of Southern California involves handling complex homeowner claims related to property insurance. The role requires conducting thorough investigations, evaluating coverage, negotiating claims, and ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements. This position also includes mentoring less experienced staff and may involve participation in legal proceedings.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • 7-9 years of prior claims handling experience.
  • 7-9 years of property claims administration experience.
  • 4-6 years of experience in the construction industry (preferred).
  • Advanced knowledge of insurance, fault assessment, negligence, and subrogation principles.
  • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office suite and claims software.
  • Comprehensive understanding of vehicle and building repair procedures and third-party liability issues.
  • Advanced leadership, organization, planning, oral and written communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Valid Driver's License with an acceptable DMV record.

Nice To Haves

  • Chartered Property Casualty Underwriter (CPCU) certification (preferred).
  • Associate in Claims certification (preferred).
  • An insurance/claims adjuster license may be required in specific states (preferred).

Responsibilities

  • Conduct field investigations on severe damage claims including total loss fires, earthquakes, landslides, explosions, and collapses.
  • Evaluate and estimate claim values, writing structural repair estimates that can exceed several hundred thousand dollars.
  • Determine coverage by interpreting case law, insurance codes, building codes, and insurance contracts on complex issues.
  • Recognize and address complex coverage issues appropriately.
  • Directly communicate and interact with forensic experts such as engineers and hygienists.
  • Negotiate with insureds, attorneys, and public adjusters to resolve complicated claims.
  • Prepare comprehensive reports on high-profile claims for senior management.
  • Mentor and develop less experienced personnel.
  • Attend and participate in legal proceedings as necessary.
