About The Position

The Pre-Op Specialist is responsible for obtaining accurate measurements to aid in calculating IOL power. List of Responsibilities/Duties Promptly and professionally assists the doctor in patient care. Performs patient interviews and special testing to obtain measurements for IOL calculation. Develops lens calculation sheets for the surgeon Prepares all paperwork needed by the surgeon or surgery center for each patient & delivers 24 hours prior to surgery. This includes the surgical orders, completed data sheets, copy of IOL Master, Immersion, or Applanation A-Scan, signed consent, post operative instructions, and clinic exam note. Ensures that any outside pre-operative testing results are received prior to the surgery date Maintains and cleans all equipment being used. Report to supervisor if not in working condition. Makes & returns phone calls to patients. Inputs intra-operative information to track surgical outcomes for surgeons Maintains patient confidentiality. Attends required meetings. Travels with surgeons to satellite locations Maintaining eligibility for certification Serves as back-up for surgery scheduling and counseling.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Previous experience or training in this or similar position
  • Position requires good understanding of ophthalmic practice and patient care.
  • Knowledge of medical instrumentation and its proper care and usage needed.
  • Ability to assess common safety hazards and take precautions to establish a safe work environment required.
  • Ability to communicate with patients, co-workers and supervisor is critical.
  • Must be willing to help in all areas and understand the need for efficient use of time.
