The Cataloging Librarian supports the patron experience by ensuring library materials in a variety of formats are easily discoverable by members of the community. Under the direct supervision of the Collection Services Senior Manager, and with an unwavering commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion, the Cataloging Librarian will: Perform Integrated Library System (ILS) database maintenance on a regularly scheduled basis including purging relevant records, validating collection data, and assisting in collection inventory efforts. Maintain authority control across the collection using Library of Congress (LOC) authority headings. Interprets and applies LCSH, AACR2 and RDA core standards, and the Dewey Decimal System. Train, evaluate, and supervise the cataloging technicians to ensure high quality records. Escalate issues as needed to the Collection Services Senior Manager. Supervise department in the absence of the manager and assistant manager. Perform copy cataloging and maintain print, nonprint, and electronic materials. Perform original cataloging as needed. Provide training to library staff on more advanced functions of the ILS as needed. Stay abreast of changes to cataloging standards and best practices. Recommend improvements to SJCPL's cataloging procedures when relevant. Prepare and analyze reports for senior management. Take part in library initiatives, projects, and teams, as well as professional organizations and conference attendance. Perform other duties as assigned.
