About The Position

The CAT Mentor position at Peace River Center involves providing mentoring and support to children and adolescents receiving mental health services. The role focuses on assisting families in navigating the mental health system and promoting recovery and resiliency for the youth. Mentors are responsible for delivering support services aimed at enhancing social, personal adjustment, and basic living skills, ensuring that participants can thrive in their environments.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Minimum of one year of experience working with children or adolescents with behavioral health needs.
  • Knowledge and experience in using local community resources as referrals.
  • Experience in basic child development and family relations.
  • Basic mental health knowledge.
  • Current Certified Behavioral Technician Certification from the State of Florida preferred but not required.
  • Reliable transportation and a valid Florida driver's license with a clean driving record.

  • Experience in internship and volunteer services related to behavioral health.
  • Knowledge of effective coping techniques and self-help strategies.

Responsibilities

  • Provide mentoring and support for children and adolescents receiving mental health services.
  • Assist families in navigating the mental health services system.
  • Support the restoration, modification, and maintenance of social and personal adjustment skills.
  • Document participant progress and maintain records according to established procedures.
  • Participate in daily staff meetings and treatment planning reviews.
  • Provide transportation for participants to medical and dental appointments as needed.
  • Assist participants with personal hygiene and grooming tasks.
  • Help participants access reliable transportation options.
  • Advocate for participants to obtain necessities of daily living, including healthcare and social skills development.
  • Assist participants in creating a Wellness Recovery Action Plan (WRAP).
  • Teach problem-solving techniques and coping strategies to participants.
  • Inform participants about community resources and supports for recovery.
