About The Position

Performs routine and some special procedure imaging. Prepares patient for procedures. Assists radiologists. Prepares, operates and cares for the equipment being used. Processes images /CDs when needed. Ads to established radiology standards of care. Applies principles of radiation protection, when appropriate to minimize exposure to patient, self and others. Assumes responsibility for assigned area and duties. Ads to hospital wide customer service programs. Performs other duties as assigned, such as quality assurance. Performs diagnostic and some special procedure medical radiographic images utilizing CAT scan equipment. Exercises professional judgment in performance of procedures.

Requirements

  • The CAT Scan Technologist must be a graduate of an allied health education and accredited radiography school or hospital-based program.
  • NY State DOH Licensure or Limited Permit required.
  • ARRT registered (RT) and radiograph (R) and or (CT) certified and / or NMTCB registered (CNMT), and documented training and experience in operating CT equipment and radiation physics and protection.
  • Passing advanced CT examination /certification within 1 year from date of hire.
  • Continuing education requirements need to be upheld to meet the standards set forth by governing bodies.
  • Current standards are 24 ECE credits over a two-year period depending on year of birth.
  • BLS certification through the (AHA) American Heart Association is required or must bepleted with 90 days of hire.
  • Radiation dose pledge for both Image Gently and Image Wisely through the American College of Radiology (ACR) will be performed during the orientation process and before end of probationary period.

  • The person in this position needs to occasionally move about the department to access patients and paperwork.

  • The person in this position frequentlymunicates with patients who have questions about their test and must be able to exchange accurate information in these situations.

  • May be exposed to chemicals necessary to perform required tasks. Any hazardous chemicals the employee may be exposed to are listed in the hospital's SDS (Safety Data Sheet) data base and may be accessed through the hospital's Intranet site (Employee Tools/SDS Access).

Responsibilities

  • Prepares and positions patients correctly for specific examinations, observing different and special requirements for each protocol including proper documentation on images and required body part questionnaires
  • Assumes responsibilities for designated areas and/ or procedures and produces good technical images, reviewingpleted exams for quality,pleteness for the type of test ordered
  • Assists physicians during procedures as necessary
  • Performs equipment Quality assurance and calibrations as needed, lets Sr. staff know when supplies are low and need to be ordered.
  • Will be required to work in case of emergency procedures or when situations arise in the department. Works on call, holiday, overtime and/or day, evening, and overnight shift coverage to help maintain adequate and safe coverage for the department
  • Maintains the cleanliness of all work areas, equipment, and accessories. s all malfunctioning equipment to Bio Med or Senior staff
  • Processes images, or s CD's if needed
  • Performs routine office duties, such as answering phones, checking previous reports/ films, documents information on patients' in EPIC, hospital RIS and PACs digital x-ray system
  • Notifies transport when patients are ready to be picked up or returned to floors
  • May be assigned as an instructor or preceptor
  • Will treat all people/staff in a professional and courteous manner, upholding the hospitals behavioral standards.
  • Introduces self, uses 2 patient identifiers, and explains the exam to the patient and/or family member.
  • Knowledgeable and skillful in providing care and meeting the physical and psychosocial needs of different patient populations including neonate/newborn, pediatric/adolescent, adults, and geriatric groups
  • Performs New York State and ACR quality assurance tasks and calibrations
  • Performs other related duties as required, attends staff meetings and in-services
  • Duties and hours may change according to the needs of the department or hospital
  • On standby/ call for emergency department coverage
  • Performs all other related duties as assigned
  • Aware of department specific protocols and policies; such as Stroke Program / Code Gray, IV & Oral contrast, etc.
