About The Position

The Medical Assistant at the Falk Medical Building, Comprehensive Lung Center, is responsible for assisting physicians with various aspects of patient care, including clerical, environmental, and organizational tasks to ensure patient satisfaction. This position is casual and operates during day shifts at UPMC Presbyterian.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent is required.
  • Basic computer skills and knowledge of medical terminology.
  • Experience with examination, diagnostic, and treatment room responsibilities.

Responsibilities

  • Send/receive patient medical records in accordance with HIPAA and other state and federal regulations.
  • Obtain lab/x-ray reports, hospital notes, referral information, etc.
  • Complete forms/requisitions as needed.
  • Schedule appointments and verify insurance coverage and patient demographics.
  • Prepare and manage charts to ensure information is completed and filed appropriately.
  • Prepare patient rooms and set up instruments and equipment according to department protocol.
  • Clean exam/procedure rooms, instruments, and equipment between patient visits to maintain infection control.
  • Manage inventory of supplies and restock exam/procedure rooms.
  • Check schedules and organize patient flow.
  • Accompany patients to exam/procedure rooms and assist them as needed.
  • Collect patient information/history, take vitals, and perform screenings per provider guidelines.
  • Relay instructions to patients/families.
  • Answer calls and provide pertinent information including patient education as directed.
  • Perform phlebotomy, EKG's, and level one labs.
  • Assist physicians with procedures and document patient information into the medical record.
  • Comply with requirements of appropriate regulatory agencies (i.e., OSHA, CLIA, PA Department of Health).
  • Maintain strict confidentiality related to medical records and other data.
  • Administer injectable medication and vaccines under the direction and supervision of a physician.
