A Caster Strand Tender/Slide Gate Operator is a teammate on the caster deck that is required to safely conduct normal operations of the Caster and assist with maintenance activities. The teammate will set up the caster to safely produce as many quality tons as possible within each shift, safely conduct preventive maintenance of equipment to ensure efficient operations, and assist the Caster Technician as needed. Some of this role's operational functions include: Preparing and inspecting the strand Using a cutting torch and welder Handling and tending to mold powder and tundish flux Overhead crane operations Assisting maintenance teammates with troubleshooting, repairing, and replacing equipment Completing cross-training to serve as a Caster Technician according to the team's needs Working scheduled and unscheduled overtime due to upset conditions or teammate absences Safety is the most important part of all jobs within Nucor; therefore, candidates must be able to demonstrate the ability to initiate, lead, and uphold safety policies, practices, procedures, and housekeeping standards at all times.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in a Caster-related role (Production, Maintenance, or Mold & Segment)
  • Ability to initiate, lead, and uphold safety policies, practices, procedures, and housekeeping standards at all times.

Nice To Haves

  • Advanced technical training (Casting/Steelmaking courses, hydraulics, pneumatics, lubrication systems, equipment alignment, circuits, ibaAnalyzer, etc.)
  • Mechanical aptitude
