About The Position

The Cast Tech/Orthopedic Tech position at Nemours is responsible for performing casting procedures, assisting in fracture care, and providing various patient care services. This role involves data collection, patient preparation for provider visits, and educating patients on follow-up care.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma required.
  • Current BLS certification through American Heart Association required.
  • Certification by The National Board of Certification for Orthopaedic Technologists preferred.
  • 1+ years of job-related experience.

Responsibilities

  • Application, adjustment, and removal of all types of casts, splints, and soft goods.
  • Modify casts as needed in clinic and hospital for patient benefit.
  • Cover injured areas with protective materials such as stockinette bandages and gauze before cast application.
  • Utilize proper aseptic techniques in dressing changes and surgical field setups.
  • Assist orthopedic surgeons/providers in fracture reduction and other procedures.
  • Responsible for suture and staple removal, as well as dressing changes.
  • Instruct patients and guardians on the use and care of casts and orthopedic equipment.
  • Manage inventory of casting materials, splints, and soft goods.
  • Document patient information and interventions in EMR.
  • Ensure availability of x-rays and laboratory reports for provider review.
  • Room patients, prepare exam rooms, and assist providers during exams.
  • Record accurate ICD-10 codes.
  • Schedule diagnostic tests, obtain pre-authorization, and notify patients under provider direction.
  • Prepare, clean, and stock exam rooms.
  • Provide cross coverage to other clinical departments and satellite offices as needed.
  • Serve as a technical advisor to hospital staff regarding orthopedic devices and equipment.
  • Schedule patient appointments.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
