About The Position

Shriners Children's Chicago has an opportunity for a Cast Tech. The Cast Technician provides assistance to the medical staff in the application, maintenance and removal of casts, traction and other splint or motion devices as ordered. Has an understanding of anatomical structures and their relationships with one another, and is able to articulate descriptions of orthopaedic conditions. Maintains the physical environment of cast rooms by ensuring that cast rooms are clean and safe. The pay range for this position is $25.83/hour - $38.75/hour. Compensation is determined based on years of experience and departmental equity.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma/GED
  • Basic Life Support (BLS)
  • Previous splint, bracing or casting experience is required

Nice To Haves

  • A minimum of one year of experience in a hospital or Orthopedic setting
  • National Board for Certification of Orthopaedic Technology or/
  • National Association of Orthopedic Technology
  • Nursing Assistant or Medical Assistant Training is preferred

Responsibilities

  • Oversee daily activities of the cast room.
  • Responsible for preparing the cast room for each day's activity, application and removal of casts.
  • Assist the physician with cast application.
  • Applies holding casts or splints per physician protocol.
  • Assisting the medical staff as needed.
  • Ability to interrelate with children and families
