About The Position

Incumbents in the Cashier classification collect and account for payments received for admission to District aquatic facilities, instruction and program registrations, and merchandise sales; interpret District policies and rules for members of the public; perform a variety of general clerical tasks related to cashiering activities; maintain the cleanliness of assigned area; may participate in aquatic in-service trainings which may include in-water components; respond to other emergencies as they occur, activating the District’s Emergency Action plan and calling 911, as appropriate; and perform related work as required. Incumbents in the Cashier classification are part time seasonal employees and may not advance to permanent status in any District job classification. Hours of work vary based on the staffing needs of the District. The Cashier classification receives general supervision from an Aquatics Coordinator, Pool Manager, Senior Recreation Coordinator and/or Recreation Services Manager. Incumbents in this classification do not supervise or direct the work of others.

Requirements

  • Must be at least 15 years of age.
  • Basic arithmetic including addition, subtraction, multiplication and division
  • Basic computer operations
  • Principles and techniques of effective interpersonal communication, public relations and customer service
  • Principles and techniques of first aid and CPR
  • Make accurate arithmetic calculations

Nice To Haves

  • The ability to obtain an American Red Cross CPR for Professional Rescuer certificate by first Public Swim shift is desirable.
  • The ability to obtain an American Red Cross First Aid certificate by first Public Swim shift is desirable.

Responsibilities

  • Sets up work area for scheduled shift; accounts for starting cash balance; ensures that laptop and/or cash register is in working order; gathers necessary forms and supplies; and ensures the cleanliness of the cashier area.
  • Determines correct admission fee for each patron by identifying the age of the entrant; attaches wristbands on young children requiring the company of an adult in the pool area; and offers appropriate merchandise for purchase.
  • Collects and accounts for cash payments received for admission to District aquatic facilities, instruction and program registrations, and merchandise sales; provides correct change and a receipt for monies collected.
  • Accurately accounts for all monies collected; prepares financial and statistical reports related to pool attendance and revenues collected; balances cash receipts to records and completes and signs daily cash deposit slip to close out each assigned shift.
  • Provides information to the public on facility hours, program fees, prices, pool rules and other district events.
  • Maintains the cleanliness of work area and facility entry: by mopping the floor and cleaning the windows and counters.
  • Assists District staff during emergency response situations as directed.
  • Attends and participates in job related in-service training sessions.
  • Activates the District’s Emergency Action Plan and makes 911 calls as needed.
  • Performs other job-related duties as required.
  • May assist District staff during in-water components of in-service training sessions.
  • May assist with shopping for and/or stocking of snacks and merchandise.
