A DAY IN THE LIFE OF AN CASHIER/SALES CLERK As a Cashier/Sales Clerk, you spend your day compiling and tabulating data, checking documents for accuracy, transporting documents, and maintaining files. Other duties reviewing correspondence, purchase orders, summaries, manuals, vouchers, records, and actions such as filing and data entry. You are constantly on your toes and ready for any new and unexpected challenges that may arise in the city. This can include performing weekly, monthly, and annual inventory for audit; inspect merchandise; price items and display merchandise effectively. You generally assist with balancing the cash register at the start and finish of each shift; open and close the facility according to established policies and procedures. You also assist with greeting, purchasing items and making suggestions to customers while providing a friendly and welcoming atmosphere. You enjoy being helpful and have no problem providing assistance and support to other divisions within the department as needed. The city needs someone like you with skills in customer service, and you find genuine enjoyment in what you do!

Requirements

  • High school diploma, GED or equivalency.
  • One (1) year of experience in progressive clerical, money handling and cashiering responsibilities.
  • Must have a current valid class "C" driver's license from the Texas Department of Public Safety with a satisfactory driving record.
