About The Position
The Cashier position at Tennessee State University's Bursar's Office is a full-time role under the general supervision of the Bursar. The primary responsibility of the cashier is to manage the posting and receipting of payments on student accounts, which includes charges for tuition, residence hall fees, miscellaneous student fees, and other institutional funds. This position serves as the first point of contact for students and parents, providing essential customer service and support in a fast-paced environment. The cashier will handle inbound telephone calls, act as a liaison between various departments and students, and communicate the university's financial policies effectively to all stakeholders. In this role, the cashier will accept payments in various forms, including cash, credit cards, and money orders, and will be responsible for entering cash receipts and billing transactions into the college's system. The position requires extensive customer service skills, as the cashier will respond to inquiries both face-to-face and over the phone. The cashier must maintain a thorough understanding of university detail codes related to cash and receivables to ensure accurate data entry and timely posting of charges, payments, and adjustments to student accounts. Additionally, the cashier will perform daily tasks such as scanning checks for bank deposits, ensuring that all deposits balance at the end of the day, and managing departmental deposits. The role also involves maintaining the student accounts email account, assisting with ongoing internal audits of accounts, disbursing petty cash, and sorting and distributing mail. The ideal candidate will possess a pleasant personality, cash handling experience, and the ability to work professionally with a diverse population, all while maintaining the professional environment of the Bursar's Office.
