About The Position

This position is responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operations of Cash Applications processes for assigned Properties (Newspapers) owned by MediaNews Group and Tribune. This includes but is not limited to: applying cash manually and through interfaces to A/R accounts from multiple in-flows, working error reports from interfaces, performing three-way match (system, bank, and GL), assisting the Collections Team with account research, and creating adjustments for customer accounts for numerous reasons. Please note: This position will be on-site at our office in Willoughby, OH.

Requirements

• Ability to resolve issues independently with co-workers and clients
• Accounting process and controls knowledge
• Strong knowledge and application of GAAP
• Strong analytical skills, self-initiative, good interpersonal skills and team collaboration skills
• Demonstrated ability to create Excel spreadsheets using formulas as needed
• Associate's degree or two years' experience within DFM required; Bachelor's degree in business and/or a combination of college education preferred
• Three to Five (3-5) years of related Cash Applications experience

Responsibilities

• Demonstrate a full understanding of all cash procedures for assigned workflows and properties
• Deposit, apply, and reconcile all cash transactions processed on a daily, weekly, and monthly basis, including all system balancing
• Communicate with remote locations and is the key contact for Sales personnel at field locations
• Demonstrate forensic accounting skills through research and critical thought to reconcile variances that may occur between point-of-sale systems, banks, and the general ledger
• Foster strong relationships with field representatives in advertising, collections, accounting, and property Publishers
• Develop and implement best practices for AR activities, reporting, communications, and team development
• Creating an environment and culture that fosters process improvement, high-performance teams, employee growth, and extraordinary customer service
• Process and deposit any live checks for GL items
• Monitor Cash team productivity and performance and report metrics
• Responsible for monitoring and enforcing Cash teams attendance
• Communicate technical problems to the appropriate IT staff for system functionality issues and resolution; perform as the 'subject matter expert' for DTI, AdBase, Brainworks, NavigaAd, interfaces, software upgrades, testing, etc.
• Assist in enforcing all Cash Application policies, controls, processes, and procedures
• Train, motivate, and ensure the Cash team understands the duties and delegated tasks
• Perform standard supervisory functions for assigned employees (performance reviews, training, counseling, etc.)
• Coordinate integration of new Properties into the Shared Services Center
• Owns and enforces all Cash Application policies, controls, processes, and procedures
