About The Position

The Cash Applications Manager is responsible for managing the daily operations of the system-wide Cash Posting department. This position will be responsible for managing both NGPG and NGHS cash posting departments. This position provides leadership and direction for all physician and hospital cash posting functions to ensure financial viability. Management skills are required in the daily operations of assigned area and in the supervision of subordinate staff. It is imperative to maintain a good working relationship with physicians, management, staff, and external contacts such as insurance representatives. The Cash Applications System Manager position requires the use of independent judgment and decision making; as well as strong analytical, problem solving, and leadership skills. External contacts include all levels of staff and management, including physicians, management, and staff. External contacts include insurance companies, state and federal agencies, outside accounting firms and auditors; resolving problems and issues, and discussing sensitive and confidential information. The Cash Applications System Manager serves as the vendor manager for the clearinghouse relative to the delivery of all electronic payment files.

Requirements

  • BA or BS, preferably in Business, Accounting, or Finance, or equivalent work experience.
  • Five (5) years experience in hospital/Physician business office.
  • Three (3) years previous supervisory experience in cash applications.
  • In lieu of a bachelors degree, ten (10) years experience may be accepted.
  • Broad proven practical experience in hospital/professional billing, follow up, or cash posting
  • Knowledge of hospital/physician billing process and revenue cycle environment
  • Knowledge of state and federal regulations as they pertain to collection processes and procedures
  • Knowledge of and skill in the use of computers and related systems and software
  • Knowledge of insurance plan payment practices and billing requirements
  • Knowledge of and detailed understanding of managed care agreements
  • A minimum of three years of supervisory experience in a similar environment is required
  • Strong math aptitude and logic/problem solving skills

Responsibilities

  • Manage the overall operations for both physician and hospital cash posting departments.
  • Assist in developing, writing, and implementing standard work procedures that promote growth with an emphasis on accuracy and efficiency.
  • Provide daily management and leadership to the Cash Applications Group, ensuring that staff is adhering to departmental procedures.
  • Manage daily cash application of payments made to several corporate lockboxes .
  • Continually evaluate the effectiveness of operational procedures and controls to maximize departmental productivity and minimize errors made by staff.
  • Responsible for ensuring Cash Applications team is adhering to internal controls.
  • Manage daily and monthly cash reconciliation process.
  • Develop and monitor key performance indicators for the cash applications group.
  • Revise and maintain cash application policies and procedures to ensure changing business requirements are met.
  • Works collaboratively with Human Resources and respective Director to appropriately select staff and to monitor/manage staff levels.
  • Administers human resource policies and procedures and ensures that positive human resource practices are implemented.
  • Maintain weekly employee time records.
  • Monitor for abuse of leave privileges.
  • Analyze and approve annual leave to ensure proper staffing.
  • Monitors overtime.
  • Assist with recruiting, staff selection and the hiring process.
  • Budgetary oversight and accountability.
  • Conducts staff performance evaluations.
  • Also, provides disciplinary/corrective action as needed.
  • Maintains open lines of communication to help resolve any outstanding issues with all departments.
