About The Position
The Caseworker position at Butler Hospital involves assessing patients' mental health needs and providing appropriate interventions to ensure their well-being. The role requires the completion of comprehensive patient assessments, which include interviewing patients and their families to gather psychosocial histories. The Caseworker is responsible for documenting clinical activities in accordance with departmental, hospital, and regulatory standards, ensuring compliance with state and JCAHO regulations. This position also plays a crucial role in preparing for inspections and audits, as well as participating in ongoing performance improvement activities within the unit. Effective communication is essential in this role, as the Caseworker must interact with patients, families, peers, and the treatment team. Responsibilities include returning patient and family phone calls, processing psychiatric emergencies, and collaborating with psychiatrists to resolve crises. The Caseworker will also facilitate referrals to appropriate treatment facilities and provide education to patients and their families about mental health services and resources. In addition to direct patient care, the Caseworker will participate in staff education and development, serving as a mentor and coach for other team members. The position requires a strong understanding of mental health procedures and the ability to navigate complex situations involving patient care and legal requirements. The Caseworker will also be involved in discharge planning, ensuring that patients receive the necessary follow-up care and services after leaving the hospital.
