About The Position

Requirements

  • Knowledge of relevant federal and state laws, county ordinances, and department policies and procedures.
  • Knowledge of the Texas Health and Safety Code and the Indigent Health Care Program Handbook.
  • Knowledge of community social welfare programs and resources.
  • Knowledge of computers and job-related software programs.
  • Skill in problem-solving, prioritizing, and planning.
  • Skill in interpersonal relations and oral and written communication.
  • Ability to communicate in English and Spanish.

Responsibilities

  • Review client cases to determine program eligibility.
  • Gather and make copies of required documentation.
  • Interview applicants and program recipients regarding their medical necessities.
  • Determine household composition and verify residency, resources, and income.
  • Prepare required reports and obtain client signatures.
  • Update, maintain, and verify case record information.
  • Review cost estimates, CPT codes, and physician orders for calculations.
  • Schedule client appointments.
  • Review and prepare medical claims for payment, including for qualifying jail inmates.
  • Post checks received for processed claims and enter information into the request log.
  • Prepare explanations of benefits for providers for all paid claims.
  • Resolve client and provider billing questions and concerns.
  • Perform outreach efforts and maintain related client files and records.
  • Maintain contact with state and local agencies to follow up on client benefits status.
  • Process and evaluate burial/cremation assistance applications.
  • Process and evaluate emergency medication assistance and pharmaceutical assistance program applications.
