About The Position

The Case Specialist position within the Bristol County Juvenile Court is responsible for a variety of case processing duties, including data entry in automated systems, customer service, and assisting the public with court-related inquiries. This role is part of a series that allows for advancement through various levels, from Case Specialist I to Case Specialist IV, each requiring increasing knowledge of court procedures and independent judgment. The position primarily operates out of New Bedford but requires travel between Fall River, Attleboro, New Bedford, and Taunton.

Requirements

  • Graduation from high school or its equivalent.
  • Some general clerical or customer service experience.
  • Ability to use personal computers, including word processing software such as MS Word.
  • Experience with spreadsheet software such as MS Excel is preferred.
  • General knowledge of modern office practices and procedures.
  • Ability to serve the public in a courteous and professional manner.
  • Ability to learn the procedures and functions of the office to which assigned.
  • Ability to understand and follow verbal and written instructions.
  • Ability to perform routine data entry at an acceptable rate of speed.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with court staff.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with MassCourts or other court-used automated case management systems.
  • Demonstrated ability to provide specialized or technical information.
  • Ability to identify problems with court documents and take appropriate action.

Responsibilities

  • Provide customer service to attorneys, litigants, law enforcement personnel, and the general public.
  • Assist the public in filling out forms and responding to routine requests for information regarding cases and court procedures.
  • Perform general case intake duties, including receiving court papers and making docket entries.
  • Prepare and enter complaints, petitions, summonses, and other standard form documents into the case processing system.
  • Send out notices to various parties and attorneys.
  • Answer incoming phone calls and provide routine information in response to inquiries.
  • Copy, file, retrieve, and sort court papers according to established procedures.
  • Perform cashiering duties, including receiving money and issuing receipts.
  • Maintain statistical data concerning case processing activities.
