About The Position

New Alternatives for Children, Inc. (NAC) is an award-winning not-for-profit agency in Midtown Manhattan dedicated to serving children and families with medical complexity, chronic health conditions, significant disabilities and behavioral challenges. To assist in achieving this mission, NAC is currently seeking a Supervisor to join its Foster Care and Adoption Program . The ideal candidate will be strength-based and solution-oriented and will welcome the opportunity to build strong relationships with at-risk families. N AC is a child welfare agency that honors the social work profession, by offering support and consistent supervision which qualifies for LCSW licensure.

Requirements

  • Master's degree in social work, mental health counseling, human services, psychology, public administration, or a related field with at least 3 years of child welfare experience required; LMSW or LCSW preferred.
  • Knowledge of health-related factors in working with physically disabled and/or chronically ill children, as well as experience in child development.
  • Strong clinical assessment and critical thinking abilities.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Collaborative mindset with a willingness to work within an interdisciplinary team.

Nice To Haves

  • Bilingual Spanish preferred.
  • LMSW or LCSW preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Reports to the Director of Specialized Foster Care and supervises a team of up to 6 staff members including case planner, behavior specialist, case associate and parent advocate.
  • Ensures that staff conduct permanency planning activities in an appropriate and timely manner; ensures that staff are identifying the needs of each case and are either providing directly or are accessing the entire range of clinical and concrete services that the case requires.
  • Assists supervisees in prioritizing workloads.
  • Ensures that case planners, behavior specialists, case associates and parent advocates are meeting all ACS and NAC mandates and paperwork requirements.
  • Attends Family Team Conferences, Service Plan Reviews, and Case Reviews.
  • Prepares case planners for court proceedings and be willing to testify.
  • Works collaboratively with colleagues in an interdisciplinary team model.
  • Ensures supervises' adherence to all agency personnel policies and procedures.
  • Has responsibility on a rotating basis for 24-hour on-call duty and Saturday office administrative coverage.
