About The Position

The Carpentry Instructor is responsible for delivering engaging and effective instruction in carpentry courses, collaborating with college staff and industry partners to ensure program relevance and quality. Key duties include evaluating student performance, maintaining accurate records, participating in program planning and accreditation, and staying current with industry developments. The instructor is expected to promote a safe and respectful learning environment, advise and mentor students, and adhere to professional ethics and college policies. Additionally, the role involves planning and implementing curriculum, creating a conducive classroom environment, guiding student learning, assessing accomplishments, diagnosing learning strengths and weaknesses, counseling students and parents, assisting with administrative policies, supervising support personnel, utilizing technology in teaching, and maintaining accurate records. All employees are expected to attend meetings, seek professional development, promote student achievement, maintain positive communication, support employee retention, and foster a culture of continuous improvement.

Requirements

Three years of full-time equivalent industry work experience in the Career and Technical Education program’s industry field.
Health Science instructional positions may require a master’s degree from an accredited institution.
Valid industry certification/licensure in the Career and Technical Education program’s industry field.
Any appropriate combination of relevant education, experience, and/or certifications may be considered.
Knowledge of HIPAA, Public Records, Sunshine Law, FERPA, and other laws/regulations related to student and employee privacy, public information, and records retention.
Demonstrated skill and proficiency in the vocational discipline.
Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills.
Ability to interact professionally with a diverse group of students, school administrators, and industry leaders.

Nice To Haves

Six years of industry work experience in the Career and Technical Education program’s industry field.
Teaching or training experience in an academic or professional setting.
Experience with instructional technology and learning management systems.

Responsibilities

Deliver engaging and effective instruction in assigned courses.

Evaluate student performance through assessments, projects, simulations, and practicums and provide constructive feedback.
Maintain accurate records of student progress, attendance, and grades in accordance with college policies and accreditation guidelines.
Participate in program planning, accreditation reviews, and institutional effectiveness initiatives.
Stay current with developments in industry field and incorporate relevant changes into instruction.
Promote a safe and respectful environment conducive to student learning.
Advise, mentor, and provide career guidance to students.
Adhere to the Code of Ethics of the Education Profession in Florida and meet all school and District policy requirements.
Perform other job-related duties as assigned.
Attend staff meetings and participate in conferences and other trainings to enhance job performance.
Seek out professional learning opportunities and maintain professional licensure and certifications.

Assist in establishing department or grade-level curriculum objectives and the development of the comprehensive plan for the implementation and evaluation of the objectives.

Guide the learning process toward the achievement of curriculum goals and, in harmony with the goals, establish clear objectives for all lessons, units, projects, and the like to communicate these objectives to students.
Employ instructional methods and materials that are most appropriate for meeting stated objectives.
Assess the accomplishments of students on a regular basis and provide progress reports as required.
Diagnose the learning strengths and weaknesses of students on a regular basis, seeking the assistance of District specialists as deemed appropriate.
Counsel with colleagues, students, and/or parents on a regular basis.
Assist administration in implementing all policies and/or rules governing student life and conduct and, for the classroom, develop reasonable rules of classroom behavior and procedures and maintain order in the classroom in a fair and just manner.
Plan and supervise purposeful assignments for support personnel and school volunteers to work cooperatively with department heads or grade level chairmen; evaluate their effectiveness.
Use appropriate technology in teaching and the learning process.
Maintain accurate, complete, and correct records and reports as required by law, District policy, and administrative regulation.
Perform Medicaid administrative claims reimbursable activities as directed in accordance with Chapter 3 of the federally approved School District Administrative Claiming (SDAC) Guide.
Adhere to the Code of Ethics of the Education Profession in Florida and meet all school and District policy requirements.
Support school improvement initiatives by actively participating in school activities, services, and programs.
Recognize overt indicators of student distress or abuse and take appropriate action based on school procedures and law.
Establish an appropriate testing environment and test security.
