Under direct supervision of the Carpenter Foreman, coordinate assigned work and perform all aspects of general carpentry. The list is representative of the duties and responsibilities of the position, and is not to be considered as all-inclusive. Other duties and responsibilities may be assigned to meet the goals of the Department and University.

  • Perform a variety of journey level skilled carpentry work in the construction, maintenance, and repair of buildings and facilities.
  • Perform a variety of technical tasks relative to assigned area of responsibility.
  • Accurately record time and materials expended on jobs.
  • Perform related duties as assigned.
  • Report for work in emergency situations (hurricanes, floods, etc.) unless otherwise directed by the Assistant Vice President for Administration.
  • Perform work in noisy, hot, dry, and/or wet locations as necessary.
  • High school graduate, G.E.D., or successful completion of vocational school training in the field of carpentry.
  • Practical experience of at least five years in general carpentry work (including time in vocational training).
  • Knowledge of principles, procedures, and terminology used in the carpentry trade.
  • Familiarity with tools and materials used in custom carpentry.
  • Understanding of methods and procedures in building construction, repair, and remodeling.
  • Ability to read and interpret plans and blueprints.
  • Ability to perform drywall finish work and painting as necessary.
  • Ability to interpret instructions and carry them out properly.
  • Ability to adopt an industrious and cooperative attitude in relations with fellow workers.
  • Must possess and maintain a current valid driver's license as a condition of employment.
  • Must be willing to work overtime or extra hours when assigned.
  • Must be able to lift heavy objects and handle large items.
  • Must be able to withstand heat and dust.
  • Must be able to bend, stoop, climb, and work in cramped areas.
