About The Position

This position is located in the Maintenance Division of the Airport Department of the City of Oklahoma City and is under the direction of an immediate supervisor. An eligibility list will be established or supplemented for filling future vacancies per provisions of the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees (AFSCME) Collective Bargaining Agreement. The workers in this classification may work alone, in pairs, or in a group to complete assigned tasks. An employee in this classification performs work of a skilled nature, utilizing knowledge and skills acquired previously. Essential job functions include: construction and remodeling projects, and repair and maintenance of office areas, furniture, cabinets, etc. A Carpenter uses various carpentry techniques and equipment to perform repair, maintenance, and construction tasks. The nature of this position requires the worker to assume full responsibility for following all procedures related to work safety and equipment maintenance. The worker receives both written and verbal orders and carries out assignments independently. The work product is subject to inspection by the supervisor upon completion.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of and skill in following and enforcing general safety practices, procedures, and techniques for working in a shop and other construction environments.
  • Knowledge of standardized carpentry materials and supplies.
  • Knowledge of and skill in the use of carpentry hand tools and hardware.
  • Skill in maintaining schedule demands and project quality.
  • Skill in reading/following sketches or blueprints with accuracy in design and quality.
  • Skill in operating, adjusting, and maintaining power tools and equipment in a carpentry shop.
  • Skill in making accurate measurements.
  • Skill in planning ad constructing carpentry projects.
  • Skill in repair of damaged furniture, cabinets, walls, ceilings, doors, locks, etc.
  • Ability and willingness to assume responsibility for decisions made and work performed by self and crew.
  • Ability to anticipate job site problems and to plan solutions.
  • Ability to work independently and with others.
  • Ability to follow oral and written instructions.
  • Possession of a valid driver license (Operator).
  • Possession of a valid Class B Commercial Driver License (Airports Department Only).
  • NOTE: Airport employees will be required to possess or obtain a valid Oklahoma Class B Commercial Driver License within twelve (12) months from the date of hire/promotion/transfer/demotion. Continued employment is contingent upon obtaining a valid Oklahoma Class B Commercial Driver License within twelve (12) months from the date of hire/promotion/transfer/demotion.
