Some things you can expect to do: Accurately read and understand construction blueprints, sketches, and plans to determine layout, dimensions, and material requirements for each project. Measure, cut, and shape lumber using hand tools (saws, chisels, planes) and power tools (table saws, miter saws, drills) to precise specifications. Build and install structural components like walls, floors, ceilings, and roof framing, ensuring proper alignment and squareness using levels, plumb bobs, and framing squares. Install doors, windows, trim, moldings, cabinetry, and other interior finishes with attention to detail and alignment. Create wooden forms for concrete pouring, including walls, columns, and beams, ensuring proper shape and support. Assemble and dismantle scaffolding to access elevated work areas safely. Regularly inspect work to guarantee compliance with building codes, project specifications, and safety standards. Properly store and manage lumber, hardware, and other construction materials on the job site. Work effectively with other construction crew members, including electricians, plumbers, and drywall installers, to coordinate project timelines.

Requirements

  • Proficient in carpentry techniques
  • Ability to perform accurate measurements, calculations, and geometry for precise cuts.
  • Capacity to lift heavy materials, work on ladders, and maintain a physically demanding work schedule.
  • Excellent dexterity and precision when using hand and power tools.
  • Ability to identify and resolve construction issues on-site, adapting to changing conditions.
  • Commitment to producing high-quality craftsmanship with precise measurements and finishes.

Nice To Haves

  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Completion of a carpentry apprenticeship program or vocational training preferred.
  • Several years of experience as a construction carpenter, depending on project complexity.
