About The Position

All candidates must complete an on-line application to be considered. To carry out any kind of Carpenter work and required deck work in accordance with the instructions from his superiors. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS Responsible for performing highly diversified duties to install, troubleshoot, repair and maintain fixtures, furnishings and equipment. Read and interpret equipment manuals and work orders to perform required maintenance and service. Diagnose problems, replace or repair parts, test and make adjustments. Perform regular preventive maintenance on machines, equipment and plant facilities Comply with safety regulations and maintain clean and orderly work areas. Dismantle machines, equipment, or devices Order parts, supplies, or equipment from catalogs or suppliers. Measure materials or distances, using square, measuring tape, or rule to lay out work. Study blueprints and diagrams to determine dimensions of structure or form to be constructed. Cut or saw boards, timbers, or plywood to required size, using handsaw, power saw, or woodworking machine. Mark cutting lines on materials, using pencil and scriber. Anchor and brace forms and other structures in place, using nails, bolts, anchor rods, steel cables, planks, wedges, and timbers. Erect forms, framework, scaffolds, hoists, roof supports, or chutes, using hand tools, plumb rule, and level. Assemble and fasten material together to construct wood or metal framework of structure, using bolts, nails, or screws. Fasten equipment with glue, screws, pegs, or nails and install hardware. Cut paneling to specified dimensions. Perform tie spacing layout and measure, mark, drill or cut. Study specifications in sketches, or plans to prepare project layout and determine dimensions and materials required. Measure and mark cutting lines on materials, using a ruler, pencil, chalk, and marking gauge. Shape or cut materials to specified measurements, using hand tools, machines, or power saws. Maintain records, document actions, and present written progress reports when needed. Build or repair cabinets, doors, frameworks, floors, or other wooden fixtures, using woodworking machines, carpenter's hand tools, or power tools. Inspect ceiling or floor tile, wall coverings, siding, glass, or woodwork to detect broken or damaged structures. Remove damaged or defective parts or sections of structures and repair or replace, using hand tools. Finish surfaces of woodwork or wallboard in houses or buildings, using paint, hand tools, or paneling. Fill cracks or other defects in plaster or plasterboard and sand patch, using patching plaster, trowel, and sanding tool. Performs other related duties as assigned or as directed. The omission of specific duties does not preclude the supervisor from assigning duties that are logically related to the position. Must be familiar with the Safety and Environmental Protection Policy and the SMS, and carry out the policies and procedures appropriate for his/her position. The carpenter reports directly to the Staff Captain. However, he/she shall also be able to take action independently when so requires. He/she is a senior member of the deck crew and shall participate in all deck activities. Shall assist the entertainment department on occasion to build or repair show sets. Must be able to train lower rank deck ratings in all kind of deck related work matters. They shall have training in Fire Fighting, Safety matters and Damage Control. They shall be familiar with all the Emergency Codes (Code A, B, D, O and P). The Carpenter shall be familiar with the Safety and Environmental Management System (SMS) including his responsibilities in the Safety Organization according to the Emergency Plan and Station Bill.

Requirements

  • Minimum of one (1) year prior experience as a Carpenter is required; or two years of prior experience as an Assistant/Apprentice Carpenter is required
  • Intermediate to advanced knowledge and experience using assorted hand tools and power tools is required
  • Intermediate to Advanced level English verbal and writing skills, including the proper use of English grammar is required
  • The incumbent must be able to work in a multi-cultural environment; also, must be able to adjust to changes in schedules, assignments and deadlines
  • Highschool diploma or foreign equivalent is required
  • Position-specific STCW training from an accredited educational institution is required
  • Passionate about hospitality and customer service driven
  • Must have a professional appearance and good hygiene
