About The Position

The Carpenter is responsible for performing skilled construction, renovation, and sustainment work on facilities and infrastructure projects located in Tin City. This position supports all phases of construction, including layout, framing, installation, and finishing work, while adhering to applicable plans, specifications, safety standards, and quality requirements. In addition to performing hands-on carpentry duties, this role may serve as an on-site coordination resource by functioning as an alternate Superintendent when the Superintendent is not physically present on the project site. In this capacity, the Carpenter helps coordinate daily field activities, support workforce direction, monitor safety practices, and communicate jobsite needs to maintain project progress. This role does not carry independent decision-making authority; any significant issues, changes, or decisions must be communicated to and confirmed with the Superintendent prior to implementation.

Requirements

  • Strong knowledge of materials, methods, and tools used in the construction, renovation, and repair of buildings and structures.
  • Proficient in the safe and proper use of hand tools, power tools, and small construction equipment.
  • Working knowledge of construction machines and tools, including their uses, basic maintenance, and practical applications.
  • Ability to read, interpret, and work from blueprints, plans, specifications, and technical diagrams.
  • Knowledge of construction layout techniques including leveling, squaring, framing alignment, and dimensional verification.
  • Ability to perform trade-related mathematical calculations such as measurements, area, volume, angles, and material quantity estimates.
  • Strong understanding of safety practices and procedures; ability to identify unsafe conditions and take appropriate corrective action.
  • Ability to maintain good housekeeping practices and recognize environmental hazards to reduce risk and exposure.
  • Ability to perform work accurately, thoroughly, and efficiently with attention to detail.
  • Ability to remain calm and productive under pressure, stress, or changing field conditions.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with supervisors, coworkers, and other trades to support coordinated field operations.
  • Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively in a team-based environment.
  • Ability to provide direction and support to field personnel when assisting with site coordination activities.
  • Ability to plan and organize daily work activities to meet production goals and project timelines.
  • Ability to safely lift, carry, and handle construction materials, tools, and equipment consistent with jobsite demands.

  • Ability to safely and effectively operate a motor vehicle.
  • Ability to maintain constant alertness and perform work safely at all times.
  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent required
  • Minimum of five (5) years’ experience as a carpenter or related trade required
  • Ability to pass drug, driving (if applicable) and background screening.

Nice To Haves

  • Eight (8) years’ experience as a carpenter or related trade preferred.
  • Experience with commercial carpentry consisting of concrete and steel framing is preferred.
  • OSHA 30-hour certification preferred.
  • Valid state driver’s license and qualified to operate a vehicle under the conditions of the Company’s Driving Policy preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Interpret and study blueprints, specifications, sketches, and building plans to determine layout, dimensions, materials, and work requirements.
  • Accurately measure, mark, and layout cutting lines and work areas using appropriate tools (ruler, chalk, marking gauge, etc.).
  • Cut, shape, and assemble materials to specified measurements using hand tools, power tools, and equipment.
  • Install and repair structural components and fixtures including framing, windows, doors, flooring, trim, hardware, and related systems.
  • Perform renovation, repair, and sustainment work on existing structures to maintain functionality and safety.
  • Maintain a high standard of workmanship, accuracy, and efficiency in all carpentry tasks.
  • Assist the Site Superintendent and other field personnel with construction activities, coordination, and problem-solving.
  • Serve as Alternate Superintendent when the Superintendent is not on-site, supporting daily operations by coordinating work activities, communicating priorities, monitoring progress, and helping maintain safety and quality standards, all with the Superintendent's input and direction while he is not on-site.
  • Coordinate work with other trades to support an efficient, timely, and organized workflow.
  • Follow all safety regulations and site-specific safety plans; actively monitor work conditions to ensure health and safety standards are met.
  • Identify and take action to avoid potential hazards, including moving equipment, other workers, and falling objects.
  • Demonstrate proper knowledge and execution of hand tools, power tools, and small equipment.
  • Maintain good housekeeping practices to ensure a clean, organized, and hazard-free work environment.
  • Ability to work in a constant state of alertness and in a safe manner.
  • Perform other duties as directed.
