About The Position

A General Carpenter for Hedrick Brothers Construction constructs and repairs various items related to the construction industry by performing the following duties. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Install finish items such as counters, cabinets, benches, partitions, floors, doors, doorframes and finish hardware. Perform tasks normally associated with commercial/residential construction such as: Fabricate and install forms Prepare and set batter boards Prepare anchor bolt templates Set anchor bolts Set trusses, sheeting, framing, etc. Build cabinets and other wooden equipment in carpenter shop. QUALIFICATIONS: Language: Ability to read and comprehend general instructions, safety manuals, short correspondence and memos. Mathematics: Ability to add and subtract two digit numbers and to multiple and divide. Mathematics: Knowledge of basic geometry. Equipment: Ability to operate a variety of electric and gas powered hand tools. Reasoning: Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral and/or diagram form. Reasoning: Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations. Reasoning: Ability to interpret blueprints necessary for assisting in layout. Reasoning: Ability to perform tasks without direct supervision. TOOL REQUIREMENTS: Should possess a set of tools including: Tool Belt Hammer Ruler Pliers Screwdrivers Adjustable wrench Allen wrenches Squares (speed and framing) Levels (2’ and 4’) Tape Measure (50’ or 100’) Wood chisels Cold chisels Hand saw Nail puller Crowbar Putty knife (assorted) Utility knife Nail sets Chalk box Plumb Bob Center punch Tin snips Wood rasp Steel file Pop rivet tool Coping saw Block plane EDUCATION AND EXEPRIENCE REQUIREMENTS: High School education preferred Minimum of 1 to 3 years experience. Valid Driver’s License PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Potential to be exposed to rain, and/or extreme heat or cold in outdoor environment. Potential to be exposed to loud noises and machinery for long periods of time. Potential to be exposed to fumes, airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, electrical shock and vibration. Ability to stand and walk up to 10 hours in a day. Ability to stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl up to 3 hours at a time. Must be able to frequently lift, push, pull or carry up to 45 pounds. Must be able to lift, push, pull or carry up to 100 pounds. Feeling in hands to finger, handle or feel objects, tools or controls. Full range of motion needed in arms and hands. Ability to climb and balance. Ability to read warning signs and judge distances. Ability to hear warning signals and conversation.
