About The Position

JOB DESCRIPTION SUMMARY: Jefferson County Facilities and Open Space Division are searching for a Carpenter to join the team! This position provides you the opportunity to work for a county that's thrives on working collaboratively and overcoming challenges. The Carpenter is responsible for performing carpentry, locksmith and sign making duties. You will repair, remodel, and maintain all existing buildings, structures, and fixtures through diligent review of blueprints and surveying documents, operating all power and hand tools, ensuring they are maintained and cleaned properly. The ideal candidate should be hardworking, reliable and have good communication and organizational skills. Must be well-versed in all construction methodologies and procedures, able to review plans and make recommendations on design changes, prepare cost estimates, and procures and deliver materials. SCHEDULE: This position operates on our four-day work week (Monday-Thursday, 7:00am – 5:30pm) and requires work to be performed on-site. COMPENSATION: Hiring Range: $ 30 – $3 5 USD Hourly Compensation will be determined based on education, experience, and skills. Requirements

  • A minimum of three years work-related trade experience, including, but not limited to: carpentry, steel stud framing and drywall, masonry, flat work, construction.
  • Note an equivalent combination of education and experience is acceptable.

Nice To Haves

  • 3-5 years of work-related experience.
  • Carpentry and construction experience, specifically with commercial framing, drywall and finishing.
  • Sound knowledge of building codes and safety regulations.
  • Follow all OSHA & County safety requirements.
  • Computer savvy; able to navigate MS Office suite, CAD, Bluebeam products with ease.
  • Ability to read blueprints.
  • Relentless attention to detail and ability to follow instruction.
  • Ability to work well in a team environment.
  • Ability to take and apply direction.
  • Great customer service skills.

Responsibilities

  • Perform skilled carpentry and renovation work.
  • Perform work in the construction, repair, alteration or installation of floors, roofs, stairways, walls, ceilings, partitions, closets, doors, windows and screens, office furniture, and related hardware.
  • Drywall installation and finish.
  • Sand, seal and finish wood.
  • Perform emergency structural repairs in situations that pose a threat to the safety and health of employees and the public.
  • Ensure that projects adhere to building codes.
  • Recommend design changes.
  • Prepare cost estimates and create material lists.
  • Perform locksmith duties.
  • Disassemble mechanical or electrical locking devices.
  • Repair or replace worn tumblers, springs and other parts, using hand tools.
  • Insert new or repaired tumblers into locks to change combinations.
  • Repair and adjust safes, vault doors and vault components, using hand tools, lathes, drill presses and welding and acetylene cutting apparatus.
  • Cut new or duplicate keys, using key cutting machines.
  • Install safes, vault doors, and deposit boxes according to blueprints, using equipment such as powered drills, taps, dies, truck cranes and dollies.
  • Open safe locks by drilling.
  • Move picklocks in cylinders to open door locks without keys.
  • Remove interior and exterior finishes on safes and vaults, and spray on new finishes.
  • Keep records of company locks and keys.
  • Perform sign making duties .
  • Design, fabricate and install plastic and vinyl signage for interiors of County buildings.
  • Be familiar with all regulations specific to signage.
  • Coordinate signage fabrication and installations with all new construction and re-models.
  • Procure all signage materials.
  • Inventory materials on hand.
  • Other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
