About the Position • Uses mechanical, technical, physical, and communications skills in order to maintain a safe, reliable, and comfortable healthcare environment. • Carries out the daily corrective and preventative maintenance work of the department and stays current with technical issues in order to make the best positive contribution to patient care. • Purchases materials, plans, layout, and complete associated work. • Provides leadership and supervision to less senior technicians who work with him/her.

Requirements

  • Successful completion of Reid Hospital orientation and competency-based skills appropriate for the job.
  • Individual performance and competency-based skills are maintained through ongoing assessment of competence and educational activities.
  • Written evaluations are done on an annual basis.
  • Demonstrates courtesy, attitude, respect, and enthusiasm (C.A.R.E.) in all interactions.
  • Always reports to work on time or meets guidelines on reporting absence or tardy arrivals.
  • Helps maintain a positive appearance and safe environment in the department and throughout hospital.
  • Organizes and cleans shop areas on a routine basis.

  • Assumes responsibility and development of personal learning needs/education.
  • Attends department meetings and in-services.
  • Demonstrates willingness and responsibility in meeting orientation exceptions and instructions of new procedures and equipment.
  • Participates in employee health infection control requirements.
  • Responsible for individual productivity rate.
  • Due to the specific age and security areas of patients on certain units Engineering Personnel should be aware of the potential for injury to these patients from tools, parts and other equipment left unattended, for even short periods of time, in these areas.
  • Valid driver’s license

Responsibilities

  • Reads and understands blueprints, schematics, and technical documents as an essential part of carrying out work in various disciplines of the job.
  • Performs all levels corrective and preventive maintenance in accordance with the following list to assure the integrity of the plant and equipment, and to provide a safe and comfortable environment for the patients, visitors, and staff.
  • Preventative maintenance of carpentry shop equipment.
  • Performs repair on all hospital case work.
  • Repairs wood furniture, cabinetry, cove base, shelving, etc.
  • Installs shelving, cabinetry, crash rails, bookcases, etc.
  • Installs and maintains in good repair various types of hangers, fasteners, and anchors.
  • Install, adjust, and repair curtain rods, tracks, and other type of drapery systems and window treatment.
  • Calculates quantity of materials needed and requisitions lumber, hardware, and other supplies, selects stock, tools, and supplies such as nails, screws and glue to repair wooded structures.
  • Repairs partitions, doors, windows, and building framework.
  • Removes and replaces broken or rusted hardware.
  • Assists in demolition and construction of new projects as time permits maintaining work orders as priority.
  • Install metal or wood stud framing as required.
  • Install and finish drywall or other types of wall finishes.
  • Install wooden and metal doors and frames.
  • Completes inspections and repairs on all types of roofing campus wide.
  • Install and repair ceramic, stone and masonry tile.
  • Must be proficient in concrete repair.
  • Inspects all buildings on the Reid Campus for structural safety and integrity.
  • Completes all documentation necessary to recreate events leading to completion of work and/or preventative maintenance instructions. Documentation to include property numbers, narrative of repair work, signature signifying completion, number of man-hours to complete work.
  • Basic computer skills with knowledge of Microsoft Office components.
  • Assists in all emergencies as requested. Serves as a team member, code green, and/or snow removal.
  • Has knowledge of and participates in QA & QA & I activities.
