About The Position
The Carpenter position at the City of Dallas involves performing entry-level carpentry maintenance and construction work on various City facilities. The primary goal is to ensure that buildings, public areas, and structures are maintained in good repair. This role is essential for the upkeep of the community's infrastructure and provides an opportunity to contribute positively to the residents of Dallas. The Carpenter will work under the guidance of a crew chief and will be involved in a variety of tasks that require both technical skills and a commitment to safety and quality. The essential functions of the Carpenter include assisting in the fabrication and maintenance of wood structures and equipment, such as assembling stages and risers for special events. The role also encompasses various building maintenance activities, including the repair and replacement of doors, frames, locks, and other structural components. The Carpenter will be responsible for installing and repairing chain link fences, monitoring park structures, and performing minor cabinetmaking and drywall work as needed. In addition to carpentry tasks, the Carpenter will be involved in constructing barricades for traffic control during public events and performing concrete work for sidewalks and retainer walls. The position requires the ability to calculate bids, determine carpentry supplies, read floor plans, and measure jobs accurately. The Carpenter will also assist with other trades as necessary to maintain and repair buildings or structures, ensuring that all facilities are safe, functional, and in good repair. This role is subject to overtime work and may require working in inclement weather conditions, reflecting the dynamic nature of the job.
