About The Position

The Stationary Equipment Carpenter is tasked with constructing, repairing, and maintaining wooden structures and components within the airport facilities. This role involves reading and interpreting blueprints, using a variety of tools and equipment to cut, shape, and assemble wood materials, and ensuring all carpentry work meets safety and quality standards. You will also inspect and assess the need for repairs on existing wooden structures and work closely with other maintenance teams to coordinate larger renovation projects. Attention to detail, craftsmanship, and adherence to safety regulations are crucial in this position to maintain the functionality and aesthetics of airport facilities.

Requirements

  • 18 years of age or older
  • Eligible to work in the United States
  • Must have a valid state-issued driver s license with an acceptable driving record
  • Communicate effectively in English (reading, writing, speaking)
  • Professional training or apprenticeship in carpentry
  • Proven experience in carpentry, including construction and repair
  • Proficiency in using hand tools, power tools, and woodworking machinery
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints and technical drawings
  • Ability to access and interpret information in print and electronically, including the use of electronic devices including IPads/Tablets, Computers, and Mobile Devices
  • Effectively communicate with colleagues and clients, both in-person and through electronic means
  • Pass a background check and drug screen
  • Eligibility to acquire needed credentials and clearances (FAA, TSA, Port Authority, U.S. Customs and U.S. Postal- as applicable)

Responsibilities

  • Construct and repair wooden structures and fixtures used in airport operations, such as baggage handling systems, counters, kiosks, and seating
  • Read and interpret blueprints, sketches, and design specifications to determine project requirements and materials needed
  • Measure and cut wood, plywood, and other materials with precision to ensure accurate dimensions and fit
  • Assemble, install, and repair wooden components using a variety of hand and power tools, including saws, drills, sanders, and nail guns
  • Collaborate with other maintenance teams to assess the structural integrity of existing wooden structures and perform repairs or replacements as needed
  • Install cabinetry, shelving, and countertops in airport facilities, ensuring they meet safety and aesthetic standards
  • Apply finishes to wood surfaces, such as staining, varnishing, or painting, to protect against wear and enhance appearance
  • Inspect and maintain carpentry tools and equipment, reporting any defects or malfunctions for prompt repair
  • Work in compliance with safety regulations and utilize personal protective equipment (PPE) to prevent accidents and injuries
  • Keep accurate records of materials used, project progress, and work orders
  • Collaborate with project managers and supervisors to plan and execute carpentry projects efficiently
  • Troubleshoot and diagnose structural issues, proposing solutions and estimating project timelines
  • Stay up to date with industry trends and best practices in carpentry to improve skills and techniques
  • Prioritize tasks based on airport needs, emergencies, and scheduled maintenance
  • Contribute to maintaining the overall safety, functionality, and aesthetics of airport facilities through high-quality carpentry work
