About The Position

Under general supervision constructs, erects and repairs wood based structures using carpentry tools and knowledge of carpentry practices and methods. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Constructs, erects, and repairs wooden structures such as houses, barns, commercial buildings, garages and similar structures; reads blueprints or sketches or from verbal instructions. Understands local building codes to ensure that structures comply with structural, safety and other regulatory requirements. Operates hand tools and power tools to saw to size, nail, shim, fit and finish wooden construction. Keeps work area neat and orderly; ensures that premises are cleaned and debris is appropriately disposed at the end of the work shift. Plans and paces own work efficiency in order to meet daily, weekly, project, or team related production goals. Understands and observes all safety procedures and practices in order to prevent injury to self or co-workers; attends periodic safety meetings as required; may recommend changes to improve safety procedures. Other duties may be assigned.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or General Education Degree (GED) and two (2) years of carpentry experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Ability to use hand and power tools required for carpentry tasks
  • Ability to read and understand blueprints or design documents
  • Manual dexterity
  • Knowledge of safety procedures while performing carpentry tasks
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions
  • Knowledge of basic math, angles and use of measuring tools
  • Valid driver’s license
