About The Position

The Carpenter is responsible for maintaining District buildings, installing and repairing structures, fixtures, furniture, and other items using different types of materials including wood and steel. This position reports to the Supervisor of General Maintenance and is classified as Auxiliary (Skilled Labor). The role requires a high school diploma or equivalent, with a preference for trade school certification. The Carpenter must possess various skills, including the ability to work well in a crew environment, perform extensive physical activities, and make independent safety decisions.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Prefer trade school certification.
  • Three (3) years of experience preferred.
  • Ability to work well with peers and managers in a crew environment.
  • Ability to perform extensive physical and repetitive activities, including lifting 50 pounds.
  • Ability to work in close quarters and heights of approximately 30 or more feet.
  • Good math skills.
  • Detail oriented.
  • Superior verbal and written communication skills.
  • Knowledge of multiple hand and power tools.

Nice To Haves

  • Bilingual (English & Spanish) a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Repair or install drywall, acoustical ceilings, vinyl floors, millwork and other architectural or structural construction.
  • Weld, fabricate, repair, maintain, and/or replace signage and make minor repairs related to bleachers, basketball goals, lockers, playground equipment, and more.
  • Perform Preventive Maintenance on buildings and equipment.
  • Act as Project Lead Person when assigned.
  • Acquire needed materials based on individual projects.
  • Comply with policies established by federal and state law, State Board of Education rule and local board policy.
  • Review drawings from architects and engineers and make recommendations.
  • Attend continuing education training to stay updated on code and compliance.
  • Work with building principals, staff, and supervisors to complete projects.
  • Communicate actual or potential problems to appropriate stakeholders.
  • Maintain compliance and records as required by law and code.
