POSITION SUMMARY Cut, fabricate, assemble, install, and/or repair a variety of wood structures and furnishings in marine vessels.

Requirements

High school diploma or GED equivalence plus one or more years’ carpentry experience desired. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
Knowledge of materials, methods, and appropriate tools to construct marine vessels.
Requires knowledge of ship terminology, safety, and Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) regulations.
Ability to read and comprehend written, verbal, or diagram form.
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, verbal, or diagram form.
Ability to read and understand blueprints.
Knowledge of safe operation and use of hand and power tools.
Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure.
Ability to read a tape measure.
Integrity, ethics, flexibility/adaptability, initiative, interpersonal skills, attention to detail, safety conscious, and multi-tasking.
Maintain the confidential integrity of details pertaining to Eastern Shipbuilding Group.

Responsibilities

Regular attendance at work and the ability to work flexible hours, including overtime, weekends and holidays.
Comply with company, Federal, State, and local safety, ethics, and environmental rules, regulations and policies while performing duties.
Assist in the repair of structural woodwork and replacement of defective parts and equipment using hand and power tools.
Assist in the construction of floors, doors, and partitions, using woodworking machines, hand tools, and power tools.
Assist in the layout and alignment of material in accordance with specifications.
Measure and cut materials to determine conformance to specifications.
Assist in the installation of permanent and temporary ladders and handrails.
Assist in the installation of sound dampening and ballasting materials.
Using approved material, prepare and place blocking material for vessel blocking.
Rig and flag cranes use hand signals to move material safely to desired locations.
Accountable for completion of daily work assignments.
Perform other duties as assigned.
