About The Position

Job Summary: Assist in buildling, rebuilding, repairing and inspecting railway cars, following federal and company regulations, using hand tools, power tools, welding equipment, cutting torch and measuring instruments. Some Job Duties and Responsibilities: Assist In: Inspecting car components for compliance with AAR, FRA and company standards; Performing maintenance activity, both scheduled and demand, including: making air brake tests, lubricating moving parts and cleaning components; Removing and replacing defective components, such as: safety appliances, wheels, truck and air brake equipment, coupler assemblies and interiors using air jacks, frames, blocks, welding equipment and hand tools; Repairing or replacing steel sections, such as: side posts, rafters, crossties, panels, underframing, and piping, using welding torch, electric welder, and power wrench; Rerailing cars and clearing wrecks; Inspecting railroad cars to identify structural and running gear defects; Performing work in shops, on repair tracks, out in train yards, or at derailment locations; Communicating with foreman and other employees orally and by completing written reports and logs. Lifting and carrying heavy objects such as knuckles (approximately 80 lbs.) Applicant must have and maintain a valid driver’s license and be insurable through Company insurance
