About The Position
This posting is for three Caretaker positions. The NYC Public Housing Preservation Trust (the Trust) is a public benefit corporation created to oversee the renovation and rehabilitation of the City’s public housing developments, owned by the New York City Housing Authority (NYCHA). NYCHA will remain the permanent owner of the land/buildings and will enter a long-term ground lease with the Trust to secure Section 8 vouchers. The selected caretaker will be a NYCHA employee assigned to Nostrand Houses and will work on behalf of the NYC Public Housing Preservation Trust. They will support caretaking services with a focus on maintaining exterior areas of the development that include lawns, shrubs, trees, recreational areas, parking areas, paved areas and fences. They will also respond to circumstances that affect the grounds, such as natural plant growth, weather conditions, and vandalism.
Responsibilities
- Policing all grounds areas.
- Performing routine landscaping tasks.
- Repairing fences, benches and playground equipment.
- Operating motorized vehicles/equipment.
- Maintaining and/or repairing equipment.
- Removing snow, ice, and other weather – related hazards.
- Supplementing development building staff, as needed.
- Assisting residents with registered gardens with soil preparation.
- Providing access to water and basic maintenance assistance, as required.
- Maintaining the Centralized Exterior Compactor/Bulk Debris Compound.
- Emptying waste receptacles.
- Performing related duties.
