About The Position

Reporting to the CARES Program Coordinator, the CARES Program Specialist. Helps ensure appropriate care and follow-up for students in need of resources, helping to coordinate a comprehensive plan of care with appropriate colleagues across multiple units of the College. Works in consultation and collaboration with internal and external partners (e.g., social service agencies) to assist students in accessing support for basic needs-related concerns and navigating barriers to success, including ensuring the correct operation of the food pantry This position will help with scheduling and case management under the direction of the CARES Program Coordinator. Case management services will include coordination with various units in and outside of Student Services as well as external resources. While this is not a clinical position, sensitivity, judgment, and respect for confidentiality are required. This position will facilitate support for students/parents/family members during both urgent and non-urgent situations. Monday - Thursday 28 hours a week, hours will vary depending on the days and be between the hours of 8 am to 7 pm

Requirements

  • Associates Degree in Social Science, Social Work, or a related field required.
  • A minimum of two (2) years of experience in customer experience, student services in a public setting, or vocational rehab.
  • Or high school diploma and four (4) years in customer experience, student services, in a public setting, or vocational rehab.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, verbally and in writing, and develop effective working relationships with various outside stakeholders, supervisors, faculty, current and potential students, and co-workers.
  • Experience using critical and creative thinking skills to solve complex problems in a range of diverse situations.
  • Knowledge of food security, housing insecurity, and other student basic needs challenges.
  • Strong organizational skills, with the ability to manage inventory, maintain accurate records, and oversee day-to-day operations.
  • Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively with staff, faculty, students, and community partners.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills to work effectively with a diverse student population.
  • Commitment to providing services with dignity and confidentiality.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor's degree in Social Science, Social Work, or a related field strongly preferred.
  • Prior experience helping to navigate various barriers for low-income students/families.
  • Ability to speak Spanish strongly preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Via walk-in and scheduled appointments, assist students in accessing off-campus mental health care and community resources by providing information about local health care options and assisting students in initial outreach to providers, as necessary.
  • Assess needs and collects facts pertaining to students of concern by communicating with the CARES Program Coordinator and other stakeholders such as partner school staff or administration, Student Services, faculty, or other relevant parties.
  • Develop success plans in consultation with students of concern, Student Services personnel, college faculty, and appropriate personnel at student's school to mitigate risk and enhance student success.
  • Develop and maintain accurate and timely documentation of students' basic needs regarding community referrals for follow-up and tracking.
  • Manage the day-to-day operations of the CARES food pantry to ensure students have consistent access to food and necessities.
  • Maintains accurate inventory records, tracks incoming and outgoing inventory, monitors supply levels, organizes store areas, and rotates stock.
  • Restocks shelves and maintains adequate supply levels to meet students demand, and ensures all food is stored and distributed safely, properly labeled, and within expiration dates.
  • Promote awareness of the CARES through campus events, wellness fairs, workshops, social media, and partnerships with student services staff.
  • Assist with implementing programs and workshops that address financial literacy, housing stability, wellness, and other basic needs.
  • Review and provide outreach to student concerns submitted by staff and faculty; engage appropriate parties in the response where necessary, including faculty and staff from across campus.
  • Communicate with parents/family members, CARES Program Coordinator, faculty, and other necessary partners to assist with coordinated plans and management of student concerns.
  • Collaborate with other College divisions/offices/constituents to assist with complex student issues.
