Careers in Child Development/Childcare will provide an opportunity for eight students with career interest in the field of childcare services. The students will be placed in a childcare setting on the Bethlehem Centers of Nashville campus to assist childcare teachers in classrooms that provide quality childcare for young children ages 2-5 years old (Toddler through Pre-School Age students). The students completing this tract will complete an on-site childcare training seminar with the childcare director, be assigned to a head teacher in a designated classroom and remain with that class during the entire work experience once assignments begin. During the placement students will be responsible to assisting the childcare teacher with daily chores, preparing for activities for the younger preschoolers, assisting with arts and crafts activities, hands on learning activities, lunch prep and clean-up, prepping for naptime session, decorating classroom and other general teacher assistant tasks. The students assigned to this tract will also be responsible for developing a weekly lesson plan and implementing one activity each day with younger childcare-aged students. The daily activities can include reading to younger students, math or science projects, arts and crafts, puppet show development or other desires that the classroom teacher may request. Students enrolled in this tract will meet weekly with classroom teachers for mentoring, coaching and performance evaluation.
