About The Position

Youth Opportunity is a nationally recognized leader in residential and behavioral health treatment for at-risk youth. Crestview Youth Academy in Crestview, Florida, is a secure residential program providing trauma-informed care and educational services to youth involved in the juvenile justice system. Serving youth in a structured, supportive environment, Crestview Youth Academy combines behavioral health treatment, academic instruction, and Career & Technical Education (CTE) programming to help youth build practical skills, confidence, and pathways toward successful reintegration. Programming is delivered within small group living units to support accountability, engagement, and long-term success. The Career & Technical Education / Vocational Instructor is responsible for delivering hands-on vocational and trade-based instruction that supports youth career readiness and skill development. This role provides structured learning experiences in specific trade areas while maintaining safety, supervision, and compliance with Youth Opportunity policies and applicable regulations. The Vocational Instructor plays a critical role in preparing youth for employment, certification opportunities, and post-release success by combining technical instruction with mentorship and positive role modeling.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in a related field
  • Minimum of two (2) years of experience working with youth in a structured setting
  • Experience with vocational training, career education, or trade instruction preferred
  • Knowledge of one or more trade areas such as woodworking, metalworking, power mechanics, horticulture, graphic arts, drafting, or similar technical skills
  • Experience working in juvenile justice or residential settings is a plus
  • Valid state driver’s license required
  • Must meet all state criminal background check requirements
  • Must be in good physical health and emotionally stable
  • Able to actively engage with youth, participate in physical interventions, and transport youth or staff as needed
  • Must be free of communicable diseases as defined by the state
  • Must pass evaluation of physical techniques and certification exams

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with vocational training, career education, or trade instruction preferred
  • Experience working in juvenile justice or residential settings is a plus

Responsibilities

  • Provide instruction in designated career and technical education or vocational trade areas
  • Plan, organize, and deliver hands-on learning activities aligned with program goals
  • Set up, maintain, and supervise the safe use of tools, equipment, materials, and supplies
  • Monitor youth progress and provide guidance, feedback, and skill development support
  • Conduct group discussions related to vocational skills, work readiness, and career pathways
  • Maintain accurate records, attendance, and inventory of instructional materials
  • Ensure custody, supervision, and security requirements are met at all times
  • Collaborate with facility leadership and interdisciplinary teams regarding youth progress
  • Serve as a positive role model and maintain professional boundaries with youth
  • Report incidents, safety concerns, or policy violations in accordance with YOI and customer agency guidelines
  • Participate in required training and professional development
  • Perform other duties as assigned
