About The Position

The Career Services Specialist II supports undergraduate student success through personalized career coaching, teaching, and programming within a designated academic or industry interest area. This role collaborates with faculty and employers to align career development with academic goals, delivers career-related courses and workshops, and contributes to university-wide events. The specialist also supports administrative initiatives and stays current on labor market trends and best practices to enhance student career readiness. This position is eligible for hybrid work within the state of Utah.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in student affairs, counseling, or related field.
  • 3 years' experience related to the responsibilities and duties
  • Understanding of career counseling models, student development theory, and job search strategies.
  • Familiarity with career assessment tools such as Focus2, Clifton Strengths, and Strong Interest Inventory.
  • Knowledge of curriculum development, learning outcomes, and teaching methodologies.
  • Ability to comfortably present to large and small audiences in-person or virtually.
  • Ability to coach students/alumni with regard to resume writing, cover letter writing, interviewing skills, and job search strategies.
  • Ability to build rapport with faculty to develop and sustain partnerships with the Career Design Center.
  • Ability to identify and develop employment opportunities at the internship, co-op and full-time levels.
  • Ability to create, compose, and edit written materials, including reports and presentations.
  • Ability to communicate professionally with a wide range of constituents (students, faculty, staff, administrators, employers, alumni).

Responsibilities

  • Provide individualized career coaching to undergraduate students from an assigned interest area (college, major, industry) on topics such as career/major exploration, resume and cover letter writing, interview preparation, and job and internship search strategies.
  • Create, edit, and update career planning and development materials for presentations, Canvas, and the website.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of labor market trends, employer expectations, and best practices in career development.
  • Utilize career assessment tools (e.g., Focus2, Clifton Strengths, Strong Interest Inventory) to guide students in self-discovery and career planning.
  • Guide students in developing career action plans and building professional networks.
  • Serve as a liaison between academic departments and the Career Design Center to align career coaching with discipline-specific needs.
  • Develop relationships with faculty, administration, and staff from an assigned interest area (e.g., college, major, industry).
  • Coordinate with faculty to identify and promote internship, research, experiential learning, and career opportunities.
  • Collaborate with the Assistant Director for Curricular Integration to integrate career design into programs from an assigned interest are (e.g., college, major, industry).
  • Collaborate with the Employer Relations team to identify meaningful opportunities for employers to engage with students in the classroom.
  • Design and teach 1-2 credit-bearing career design courses each semester.
  • Evaluate student performance and provide constructive feedback.
  • Collaborate with the Assistant Director of Curricular Integration to review course content regularly to stay up-to-date with emerging trends in career development.
  • Stay current on pedagogical best practices and integrate them into instruction.
  • Coordinate career design events and workshops for students from an assigned interest area (e.g., college, major, industry).
  • Collaborate with Fair & Events Coordinator and Employer Relations team to engage employers in career design programs.
  • Support large events planned by the Career Design Center (e.g., career fairs, Student Employee Appreciation Week, Career Design Awards, etc.).
  • Promote career design through creating and delivering presentations to students, alumni, and employers on relevant topics.
  • Participate in university-wide events such as orientation, Day on the Quad, recruitment events, and alumni networking events.
  • Support the work of the Career Design Center through assigned administrative duties.
  • Solicit funding and involvement from alumni, employers, and assigned colleges for collaborative programming.
  • Serves as an active University citizen by serving on committees, volunteering, etc.
  • Contribute to the overall success of the Career Design Center by developing professional knowledge, skills, abilities, and attitudes through engagement, active learning, and a growth mindset.
