About The Position

Engineering Career Services (ECS) is a small and dedicated team focused on serving all students in the College and our alumni. This team supports engineering students in getting internships, co-ops, and full-time jobs. The Career Services Advisor will meet one-on-one to advise undergraduate engineering students on a variety of career development needs including but not limited to: internship, co-op and job search strategies, resumes, cover letters, interviewing techniques and offer negotiation. This role will develop and lead workshops on career development topics for undergraduates and support courses managed within the Engineering Career Services unit including summer internship for academic credit. Additionally, this role will create and develop marketing and promotional materials for career-related programming, serve as advisor for Engineering SOAR (Student Orientation, Advising & Registration) and guide integration of career concepts into SOAR experience, and serve on the larger engineering career services team helping to facilitate large-scale events such as career fairs, student visits to industry partners, and alumni/student networking sessions. Position will require occasional evening hours during the academic year. Remote work may be available up to one day after a training period has been completed.

Requirements

  • At least 1 year working in higher education post degree completion in a student-facing/student services role
  • Demonstrated experience creating, presenting and facilitating workshops and programs for college students
  • Familiarity with career development literature, resources, services and theories
  • Experience working effectively in teams and independently
  • Demonstrated ability to produce high-quality work while balancing multiple priorities and managing deadlines
  • Bachelor's degree required (preference in higher education or related field)

Nice To Haves

  • At least 1 year of experience working in career services or academic advising
  • Experience using marketing and communication products such as Canva, Eloqua, and LinkedIn groups
  • Experience working with Engineering students in a student-facing role
  • Experience supporting students with preparing job search materials
  • Experience working with Handshake and/or 12Twenty
  • Master's degree preferred (preference in higher education or related field)

Responsibilities

  • Participates in the campus-wide career services community, providing input to leadership regarding the development of advising, recruitment, and co/curricular programs offered by the school/college/unit
  • Educates or advises students and recent alumni individually or in groups through various mediums about career exploration, self-assessment, skills, materials development, and career decisions
  • Serves as advisor for Engineering SOAR- Student Orientation , Advising & Registration. Guides integration of career concepts into SOAR experience
  • May identify and maintain a professional network of employers or other stakeholders to facilitate career exploration and employment opportunities for students
  • Works to support the idea of engineering for all in all Academic Affairs practices and procedures; supports and enhances a climate of inclusive excellence for students and colleagues
  • Responds to questions and provides information regarding student services, policies, procedures, and employment preparation
  • Develops and delivers career development programming and resource materials across various mediums to provide education to students
