About The Position

The Office of Career Services at Mesa Community College assists all students, faculty, staff, alumni, and employers in the development of career education, career identification, career decision-making, and the pursuit of employment opportunities. A Career Advisor at Mesa Community College (MCC) specializing in the creation, maintenance, and facilitation of workshops and presentations for internal and external partners focuses on enhancing students' professional development and career exploration. This role involves designing and delivering programs that equip students with the necessary skills and knowledge to navigate their career paths effectively. Perform other related duties as assigned. The Career Services Advisor position is designed to assist students with identifying a career path related to their interests, skillset, and academic program. Advise students on creating a career development plan which includes self-assessment, exploration, goal setting, and implementation leading to internship and employment. Use appropriate platforms to identify resources. Conduct workshops and classroom presentations and assist with planning career fairs and related events from implementation to completion. The Career Advisor will provide administrative support to the Career Services Manager.

Responsibilities

  • Plan, coordinate, and deliver career-related workshops, career fairs, panels, and events.
  • Create presentations that assist students in identifying professional development opportunities, such as certifications or skill-building programs.
  • Work with faculty and administration to integrate career-related learning outcomes into the classroom, designing and managing out-of-classroom career education opportunities and programming. (i.e., First-Year Success Courses)
  • Design and implement workshops on various career development topics, including resume writing, interview techniques, job search strategies, and professional etiquette.
  • Participate in departmental meetings, strategic planning, and support college-wide initiatives.
  • Engage with external organizations to facilitate workshops that provide insights into various industries and career paths (i.e., high schools, junior highs, charter schools).
  • Provide one-on-one and group advising on career planning, resume writing, job search strategies, interview preparation, and graduate school applications.
  • Conduct individual and group career advising sessions.
  • Conducts individual appointments focused on career exploration, employment search, and interview preparation, assists with career assessments, work-based learning opportunities, resume and interview preparation, and career planning needs utilizing various career services resources; supports and assists students with meeting workplace and college transition goals related to career goals and programs of study
  • Assist students in exploring career pathways, job readiness training, resume building, and interview preparation.
  • Assist students with job placement, career counseling, and navigating workforce training programs.
  • Routinely participate in and support drop-in hours for resume/cover letter review.
  • Develop career plans supporting students' fields of interest and academic programs; collaborates with academic and Career & Technical Education (CTE) advisors to provide relevant and current career-related information, serves as a liaison to faculty and staff members regarding career-related resources and readiness
  • Provide personalized guidance to students, assisting them in identifying suitable opportunities based on their academic interests and career goals.
  • Assist students in the application process, including resume development, interview preparation, and professional etiquette.
  • Promote services, events, and opportunities through digital communications, social media, and presentations.
  • Provide student and employer follow-up as needed.
  • Contribute to developing and maintaining print, web, and/or social media materials, postings, and resources.
  • Utilize assessment results to make data-driven improvements to career services offerings.
  • Collect and analyze data on workshop attendance, student feedback, and employment outcomes to assess program effectiveness.
  • Ensure compliance with relevant legal and ethical standards, including labor laws and institutional policies.
  • Administer policies, procedures and forms with departments, academic deans, employers, Bursar, Registrar, etc. and other departmental internships as needed.
  • Maintain accurate records of placements, agreements, and evaluations.
  • Gather, analyze, and share data and insights related to employer engagement, experiential learning, events, student participation, hiring rates, and overall program effectiveness.
  • Manage the tracking, documentation, and secure storage of student and employer agreements, ensuring compliance with institutional policies and legal requirements.
  • Monitor the MCCCD/MCC experiential learning policy and enforce policy expectations to campus and employer partners. Collaborate with functional areas of the career center and areas of the college to provide coordinated standards of services.
  • Implement the operations of experiential education efforts to ensure best practices are being met by college entities to validate, verify, and share experiential learning opportunities for students.
  • Maintain confidentiality of student records, files, and correspondence as required by the Federal Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA).
  • Provide support to the division of Career and Community Connections and the division of Student Affairs as aligned with MCC/MCCCD strategic priorities, and other duties as assigned.
  • Serve on various executive boards, college and district committees (including locally, regionally, and nationally) as designated and participate in meetings and conferences.
  • Responsible for other reasonable related duties as assigned commensurate to the grade level of the position.
