About The Position

About this Role: The Teacher Lead-Career helps to develop and implement career exploration content for students entering grades 7th and 8th in partnership with approximately four career teachers. This lead teacher will support the implementation of our curriculum through both modeling and 1-1 coaching of career teachers. The Teacher Lead- Career will be instrumental in contributing to our mission by maintaining high-quality standards for career exploration instruction. All teachers will be allotted up to 8 hours of remote preparation and planning time between June 3rd-June 21st with the Teacher Lead- Career.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in education or related field with a minimum of 3 years teaching experience
  • Experience in instructional coaching
  • Passionate about making a difference in the academic outcomes of underserved students

  • Must meet PA State background check requirements [PA Criminal, PA Child Abuse and FBI Fingerprint Check] at hire and every five years thereafter.
  • Strong orientation to customer service, particularly with regard to students, partners and colleagues
  • Proficiency in Google Suite, Microsoft Office and related applications, as well as use of general office equipment (phones, computers, copiers, etc)
  • Fluency in the use of data and data systems. Maintains appropriate engagement with data entry, reporting and review.
  • Must adhere to COVID safety guidelines as established by Heights and/or its partners.
  • Office-based staff should be mindful of the organization’s strong recommendation that staff maintain up to date with COVID vaccination and boosters.
  • Site-based staff must be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 and must submit to any COVID testing or other health screenings as required by the Department of Human Services and/or the School District of Philadelphia.
  • Must be able to work in a busy, often complex work environment that is generally climate controlled.
  • Must be able to lift up to 20 pounds unassisted on an occasional basis.
  • Must be able to sit for long periods of time.
  • Must be able to stand or walk for long periods of time.
  • Access to reliable transportation required

Responsibilities

  • Providing weekly observation, coaching and feedback to career teachers, with a focus on content delivery, student engagement, classroom management and student outcomes and products
  • Supporting career teachers in implementing capstone projects, integrating field trips/guest speakers, utilizing assessments and cross-program instructional best practices and routines; meeting curriculum objectives with key performance indicators in mind
  • In June, meet remotely with all career teachers to train and prepare lesson plans.
  • Assisting in recruiting professionals from the specified career field to guest speak to students for the weekly podcast
  • Integrating PBIS practices into curriculum and coaching of teachers.
  • Leading professional development for staff throughout the summer; Bringing in guest speakers to lead PD as appropriate.
  • Supporting content development for family & student orientation
  • Supporting teachers in creating and implementing a summer capstone project
  • Meeting with career teachers as needed to discuss instructional feedback and next steps
  • Providing interim support to program administration, where appropriate.
  • Other administrative duties as needed
