About The Position

The Feller Center for Academic Advising & Career Planning is a co-located office in the College of Behavioral and Social Sciences (BSOS). The Career Planning team assists BSOS undergraduate students in their career planning endeavors, including career exploration, career readiness, gaining experience, and launching into their post-graduation pursuits. This position will be supervised by the Fishlinger Director of Career Planning in the Feller Center. Position Overview and Key Responsibilities: The Career Planning Coordinator will serve an integral role within the Feller Center’s Career Planning team to support initiatives. The position will be tasked with developing alumni mentoring relationships, office administrative tasks, leading coaching appointments, and contributing to efforts to increase student engagement through outreach. The Coordinator will collaborate with the Feller Center’s Career Planning team, the BSOS College and Department Advisors, and the centralized University Career Center to support career exploration, networking events, and initiatives. The ideal candidate will demonstrate teamwork, organization, a can-do attitude, perseverance, and the ability to think strategically and creatively.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university.
  • One (1) year of professional administrative or coordinator experience.
  • Additional work experience as defined above may be substituted on a year for year basis for up to four (4) years of the required education.
  • Knowledge of best practices in organization, administration, and customer service.
  • Knowledge of proper protocol in dealing with confidential information.
  • Skill in oral and written communication.
  • Skill in the use of Microsoft Office and Google Workspace (Docs, Sheets, Slides, Forms, etc.)
  • Ability to interpret and apply policies, procedures, regulations, and laws.
  • Ability to multitask while demonstrating a commitment to customer service.

Nice To Haves

  • Prior experience working in a higher education setting.
  • Knowledge of, background in, or appreciation for behavioral and social sciences.
  • Prior experience with Handshake or PeopleGrove.
  • Excellent communication skills, including group presentation and writing skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to work with a variety of constituents.

Responsibilities

  • Develop Alumni Mentoring Relationships & Support Partnerships
  • Develop new relationships with young alumni by attending networking events, scheduling one-on-one meetings, and sourcing on Terrapins Connect.
  • Facilitate stronger relationships with the Feller Center’s current alumni career volunteers.
  • Support the program aspects of the BSOS Alumni Career Mentor Networking program.
  • Coordinate alumni engagement with classes, career exploration programs, and connections with students.
  • Leverage social media platforms to connect students with alumni.
  • Administrative Support
  • Manage the office’s email account, the BSOS blog posts, LinkedIn group posts, the BSOS Terrapins Connect group, and alumni communications.
  • Provide support for ongoing projects such as updating career guides/resources on the Feller Center’s website and curating openings in Handshake specific to BSOS majors.
  • Support the review process of applications submitted to BSOS specific scholarship programs.
  • Contribute to yearly programming by assessing the needs and interests of students and collaborating with student groups, faculty, and administrators to identify and implement new initiatives.
  • Contribute to college graduation survey efforts.
  • Other tasks/projects as assigned.
  • Outreach/Coaching
  • Provide in-person, on-campus, individual coaching for students on career and professional development, specifically resume development.
  • Support ongoing career exploration efforts within BSOS undergraduate departments.
  • Expand class outreach presentations with input from the Feller team.
  • Support the annual updating of the Feller career planning course assignments and resources.
  • Engagement
  • Contribute to the office’s communication strategies, including developing marketing images.
  • Support event logistics planning and day-of execution for events such as career exploration panels, networking nights, and career fairs.
  • Support college career, curricular, and engagement initiatives.
  • Represent the office at student engagement/tabling events and support BSOS and Feller Center events when needed.
