About The Position

BYU–Hawaii's Career Services Department is seeking motivated, personable, and driven student employees to serve as Peer Counselors. In this role, you will be a frontline resource for your fellow students, walking alongside them as they develop the professional skills needed to launch successful careers. You will work closely with students from across all regions of BYU–Hawaii's diverse community, helping them build confidence, prepare for the workforce, and connect with meaningful opportunities.

Requirements

  • Event management and planning experience
  • Ability to mentor and support peers
  • Strong relationship-building and interpersonal skills
  • Customer service orientation
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team
  • Self-motivated and driven with the ability to work independently
  • Must be an enrolled BYU–Hawaii student in good academic and honor code standing
  • Available to work up to 19 hours per week during the semester
  • Able to commit to scheduled student appointments and department events
  • Upper-Division Courses Completed
  • 6 Months of Directly Relevant Experience

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in leadership, tutoring, or customer-facing roles is a plus

Responsibilities

  • Meet individually with students organized by geographic region to provide personalized career guidance and support
  • Assist students in crafting, formatting, and refining professional resumes tailored to their goals and industry
  • Conduct mock interview sessions to build confidence and sharpen students' interviewing techniques
  • Administer and interpret personality assessments to help students better understand their strengths, values, and career fit
  • Guide students through creating and optimizing professional LinkedIn profiles for networking and job visibility
  • Collaborate with students on effective job search strategies, including identifying opportunities and navigating application platforms
  • Organize, plan, and lead student-facing events that promote career readiness, networking, and professional development
  • Execute outreach initiatives to connect with students who may not yet be engaged with Career Services resources
  • Bring innovative ideas and creative approaches to department projects, programs, and student engagement efforts
  • Collaborate with fellow Peer Counselors and full-time staff to support departmental goals and initiatives
  • Represent Career Services with professionalism, enthusiasm, and a genuine commitment to student success.
