About The Position

The Career Pathway Specialist at Spokane Community College (SCC) plays a crucial role in supporting students from the Adult Basic Education division's English as a Second Language (ESL) program. Under the general supervision of the Career Services Supervisor, the specialist is tasked with ensuring that these students have access to a comprehensive array of services that facilitate their educational goals and career pathways. This position is designed to provide students with career-related services and resources that support informed career decisions, successful job searches, and connections with potential employers and employment opportunities. The specialist will assist students in career exploration, goal setting, and planning, while also providing wrap-around services to troubleshoot issues as they arise, all while maintaining a high standard of professional integrity and ethics regarding fairness for students. In addition to direct student services, the Career Pathway Specialist will be responsible for developing and coordinating college-wide activities that create a clear pathway from the ESL program to credit-bearing or degree/certificate programs in other instructional divisions. This includes planning and conducting workshops, career topic panels, and educational programming on pertinent employment topics such as resume writing, interview techniques, and job search strategies. The specialist will also administer and interpret career inventories, utilize career-related technologies, and assist in the planning and execution of career fairs and campus career events. Furthermore, the role involves maintaining records on student participation rates and contributing to departmental reporting, as well as supporting the coordination of college Guided Pathway efforts to foster an equitable and inclusive student-centered environment. The position requires a commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusion, with an emphasis on serving historically minoritized populations. The specialist will model professional decorum and mutual respect in all interactions, comply with district policies and regulations, and support the strategic plan of the Community Colleges of Spokane. This role is essential in ensuring that students receive the necessary support to transition successfully into their chosen career paths.
