The position involves laying out, positioning, aligning, and fitting together fabricated parts of metal according to layouts, work orders, blueprints, schematics, and sketches in preparation for welding. The individual will tack-weld pieces together and apply appropriate welding processes to join, surface, fabricate, and repair parts of metal or other weldable materials. This is done according to layouts, work orders, blueprints, schematics, and sketches using manual and/or semi-automatic welding equipment. The role may also include laying out and marking weld points on parts or subassemblies, positioning pieces to be welded into jigs, holding fixtures, guides, and steps using measuring instruments and hand tools, and inspecting completed work for conformance to specifications. The individual is expected to observe all standard safety practices and maintain and complete all required records, following all safety rules and practices. They may also be involved in safety committees or initiatives and perform other duties as assigned.
