The Career Development Specialist at the International Rescue Committee (IRC) plays a crucial role in promoting economic self-sufficiency for refugees and immigrants facing barriers to achieving their career goals. This position involves working closely with clients to assess their eligibility for the program, develop personalized career plans, and provide ongoing support to help them transition from low-wage jobs to sustainable career paths. The specialist will also engage in community outreach and collaborate with employers to facilitate job placements and vocational training opportunities.

  • Conduct pre-enrollment assessments with potential participants and build career development plans.
  • Provide one-on-one assistance to help clients prepare resumes, search for job opportunities, and practice interview skills.
  • Deliver group coaching and instruction on advanced work readiness and employability skills.
  • Support clients in identifying, enrolling, and completing vocational training activities.
  • Assist participants with networking and job application reviews.
  • Accompany clients to job preparation activities, interviews, and job site tours.
  • Collaborate with team members to provide comprehensive strength-based services to clients.
  • Advocate for clients' rights in the labor market and educate employers about hiring refugees and immigrants.
  • Assist with the creation of program informational packets and marketing materials.
  • Conduct outreach to eligible clients and develop relationships with employers.
  • Undergraduate degree or relevant work experience.
  • Interest in social services, employment, workforce programming, or client counseling; at least one year of experience preferred.
  • Ability to work with adult learners from diverse cultural and linguistic backgrounds.
  • Experience with refugee and immigrant populations and understanding of local communities is desired.
  • Knowledge of workplace safety practices and willingness to learn industry-specific practices.
  • Excellent verbal and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Highly organized, attentive to detail, and flexible.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.
  • Fluency in MS Office applications and database experience required.
  • Willingness to work some evenings and/or weekends regularly.
  • Fluent in English, both spoken and written; multilingual ability preferred.
  • Fluency in Spanish, French, Arabic, Dari, Farsi, and/or Pashto.
