We are seeking an experienced Career Counselor to help advance this mission. Position: Full-time, on-site at our Woodland Park, NJ Campus, with the availability to travel to our other campus locations (Newark NJ, Woodbridge, NJ, and New York City). The Career Counselor plays a pivotal role in guiding students and graduates through every phase of their career development journey. By providing personalized counseling and support, the Career Counselor empowers individuals to explore their interests, identify career goals, and navigate the steps necessary to achieve them. Additionally, the Career Counselor collaborates extensively across departments within the institution. This collaboration is essential for creating integrated career development programs that enhance overall student success. By working closely with academic advisors, faculty members, and student services professionals, the Career Counselor ensures that career development is integrated into the broader educational experience.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree (Master’s Preferred) in a related field such as business administration, management, or related.
  • Experience with databases, pipelines, performance tracking, and data analytics processes.
  • Proficient in using databases, Microsoft Office, and Google products.
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in career services, recruitment, or workforce development.
  • Strong LinkedIn profile or strong LinkedIn activity.
  • Strong Networking ability onsite at events and online.
  • Proven track record of successful career counseling and development, with a focus on achieving measurable outcomes.
  • Strong organizational and leadership skills, demonstrating the ability to guide a team towards achieving departmental goals.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with an emphasis on building and maintaining relationships with students, employers, and faculty.
  • Ability to work effectively with culturally diverse student populations, recognizing and addressing the unique needs and aspirations of a varied student body.
  • Proactive approach to staying abreast of industry trends and best practices, ensuring that career services offerings remain relevant and impactful.

Responsibilities

  • Create and Maintain Employer Partnerships: Develop and nurture relationships with employers, securing major-specific internship and job opportunities for Berkeley College students and graduates. Actively seek out new employer partnerships to stay abreast of emerging employment trends.
  • Student Engagement and Progress Tracking: Conduct one-on-one career counseling sessions with students and graduates, providing guidance on career exploration, resume building, interview preparation, and job search strategies. Conduct regular outreach to assigned students and graduates to monitor job search progress, set up interviews, and verify employment status. Prepare students for required academic internships on a semester basis and ensure the successful placement of all assigned students.
  • Cross-Departmental Collaboration: Proactively coordinate with faculty members, program chairs, and campus associates to ensure overall student success and retention. Collaborate with Academic Affairs, Admissions, Campus Operations, and Community Outreach departments for seamless student support.
  • Reporting and Goal Achievement: Maintain weekly status reports on graduates and interns for the Senior Director, highlighting key achievements and challenges. Ensure that internship and graduate employment verification documentation process is met every term.
  • Research and External Engagement: Research and join external organizations focused on career and business development, expanding the college's network and resources. Actively participate in industry-related events and conferences to stay informed about market trends. Expectation is that the new counselor may be assigned interdepartmental committees
  • Workshop Coordination and Promotion: Assist with the coordination and promotion of workshops, on-site career development events in and outside of the classroom, and other initiatives to enhance student employability.
  • Deliver guidance on job and internship search strategies
  • Provide individualized support in resume and cover letter development
  • Conduct interview preparation sessions, including mock interviews
  • Facilitate networking opportunities and professional relationship building
  • Advise students on LinkedIn optimization and personal branding
  • Counsel students on salary negotiation and job offer evaluation
  • Integrate diversity, equity, and inclusion principles into career development
  • Guide portfolio development for students in creative disciplines
  • Assist students in successfully transitioning from college to career
  • Coordination of experiential learning opportunities as they tie into specific major of study.
  • Career Fairs and Tabling events.
